Summary

  • One Elden Ring invader is dressing up as a corpse to trick unsuspecting players.
  • They're doing this by combining a sitting gesture with the Furled Finger's Trick-Mirror.
  • Since you usually clip through corpses, hosts get caught off guard when they run up against a wall and awkwardly shuffle off the edge into a death drop.

Soulslike fans are an inventive bunch, especially when it comes to PvP. You have your duals and fight clubs, sure, but a key part of every FromSoftware game, especially Elden Ring, is finding unique ways to gain the upperhand as an Invader.

Cue Reddit user Canny94, who is dressing up as a corpse and using a gesture to appear dead. For context, you clip through dead bodies in Elden Ring by default. So, Canny94 is sitting on rafters in dungeons, dressed up as a corpse, to trick players into being pushed off the edge to their deaths.

It's a bit of a cheesy strategy, but as the clip below shows, it clearly works.

How They Pulled This Off

Firstly, you need one of the sitting gestures. Crossed legs is an easy enough one to find, south of the Stormhill Shack, but you can also pick up Dozing Cross-Legged in Stormveil Castle on one of the rooftops.

You also need the Furled Finger's Trick-Mirror from the Twin Maiden Husks at the Roundtable Hold. This Talisman sets you back 5,000 Runes, but makes it so that you take on the appearance of a Host of Fingers when invading, removing the red glow. This is vital if you want to play dead, otherwise you'll stick out like a sore thumb (geddit, cause.. nevermind).

Lastly, there's the armour. This is entirely dependent on where you're invading, but a safe bet is just to wear the gear of whatever basic enemies you can find in the area.

With all of that said and done, invade a host, quickly find a spot to sit that'll plunge them into the abyss if they get too close, and let the spoils pour in. By the time they've realised you're not supposed to be there, hopefully it'll be too late.
