Posts By Rabiya RizwanThe Spaventa Gatekeeper is one of the first bosses that you may encounter in Falesia Magna. It is an optional boss that can give you a fair bit of challenge. But, once you’ve figured him out, you’ll be able to come out victorious and will be able to claim the exquisite reward it drops on defeat.
How To Find The Spaventa Gatekeeper
The Spaventa Gatekeeper can be found quite early after progressing to Chapter 2, Falesia Magna. After defeating the Lumberjack Boss near the West Cliff Knot in Quinta, you will be able to travel to Falesia Magna after approaching the stone with a Tribal Mask painted on it.
After arriving in Falesia Magna, you will encounter several Fisherman enemies who may throw harpoons at you. Keep progressing ahead till you reach an area where the path divides into two. If you head to the path heading left, you’ll encounter the Walls Outskirts Knot shortly.
You can then return to the previous location and head through the tunnel on the other path, which will lead you to the Spaventa Gatekeeper’s boss arena.
The Spaventa Gatekeeper Attacks
The Spaventa Gatekeeper often usesattacks imbued with Malanno, which can inflict the Sick status effect on the player, causing you to take damage over time. The boss also has a few ranged attacks that will keep you on your toes, especially in the latter half of the fight.
Attacks
Description
How To Avoid
Running Two-Handed Slash
The boss will quickly close the distance and unleash a downward slice with his sword. The boss may also use this attack at close range, where he’ll just unleash it, without running in your direction.
This attack is fairly easy to parry as there is no delay. You can also dodge to the sides to avoid it.
Jumping Swing Attack
The boss will do a short jump into the air and do a swinging strike.
This attack has a short range and can be avoided by dodging to the back. You can also easily parry it if you see it coming.
Two-Hit Combo Swings
The Spaventa Gatekeeper will unleash two horizontal swing attacks, one after the other. The boss can then immediately start another attack.
There’s a short delay before each attack comes out, so parrying these attacks may be difficult. On the other hand, the delay makes it easier for you to get out of the attack’s range by repeatedly dodging to the back. You’ll have to be wary of the follow-up attack and avoid it accordingly.
Ranged Slash Combo
This is the enhanced version of the boss’ Two-Hit Combo Swing attack, where the swings will generate a projectile of Malanno Energy. The Spaventa Gatekeeper’s weapon itself will also be imbued with Malanno after using this attack for a short duration.
If you’re at melee range, parrying the swings will also avoid the ranged projectiles. If you’re at range, you’ll need to dodge sideways to avoid the projectiles.
Sword Thrust Into Wave Of Malanno
The Spaventa Gatekeeper may attack you by thrusting his sword in your direction. During the latter half of the fight, the boss may also unleash a wave of Malanno energy after the thrust attack.
There is a short delay between the boss assuming the stance and throwing out the attack, giving you enough time to prepare yourself. You can parry it or dodge to the sides to avoid it. If the boss’ HP is lower than 50%, he might use the Wave of Malanno attack, even if you’ve successfully parried or dodged the initial thrust attack. To avoid the wave, you’ll have to dodge to the side.
How To Defeat The Spaventa Gatekeeper
The Spaventa Gatekeeper is a fairly easy boss, especially if you’re above level 50 when you face him. The boss mostly relies on close combat, which allows you to parry most of his attacks with ease.
You have to watch out for the barrel in the middle of the boss arena because if it is destroyed, it will unleash a smoke that will build up the Sick status effect on you.
The boss is affiliated with Malanno, which makes it vulnerable to the Vis element. You can use any weapon enchanted with the Vis element or Mask Line that inflicts Vis damage, such as the Cooper’s Hammer or the Collera de’ Principe Mask Line.
Equipping the Guise of Zanni and the Aspect of Zanni is also a great way to increase your survivability for this boss battle, enabling you to withstand a lot of his attacks. The Guise of Zanni grants you extra Armonia Flask charges, while the Aspect increases your Bruiser’s Virtue at the cost of reducing your other Virtues.
Due to most of the attacks being easy to parry, it is recommended that you have equipped the Stalwart Duelist Perk, which heals you a little after every successful parry.
The general strategy of this boss fight is quite simple. You have to stay close to Spaventa Gatekeeper and try to dodge and parry as many attacks as possible. Some of his attacks don’t give you enough time to retaliate, such as the Two-Hit Combo Swings, but if you’re able to recognize when to attack, you’ll be able to come out victorious easily.
Rewards For Defeating The Spaventa Gatekeeper
Defeating the Spaventa Gatekeeper rewards you with 45,619 Memoria. You also receive 125 Gatekeeper Mask Shards, the Plagued Conquest Mask Line, which inflicts Malanno damage, and a Plagued Efestite Geode, which allows you to enhance certain weapons.
