Pre-orders for the long-awaited Fable reboot opened shortly after the most recent Xbox showcase. Alongside being able to pre-order the base game for extra content, there was a pricey Collector's Edition, setting fans back $199.99 a pop to get a statue, steelbook case, and more.

These have clearly proven popular, because they've already sold out. Months before its release on February 23, 2027, developer Playground has announced that there are no more Fable Collector's Editions to go around, and it doesn't sound like there are any plans to restock them.

Fable Collector's Edition Sells Out - And Appears On eBay For $800

As soon as Playground revealed that it had run out of stock, I went to check eBay. Lo and behold, at least one seller is already trying to profit from this, with two listings for the bundle priced at $799.90.

Another seller has listed a Jack of Blades statue for $50, but don't be fooled. The picture makes it clear that it's a poor-quality knock-off, as it lacks a lot of the details from the official release.

Instead of announcing any plans to restock the Collector's Edition before launch, Playground is encouraging fans to pick up the Premium Edition. This bundle will get you the in-game goodies, but not the physical merch from the Collector's Edition.

In any case, the Collector's Edition selling out this early could bode well for Fable. It's been years since we had a new game, and this is the first Fable developed by Playground, so there's a lot riding on its success. It is also coming at perhaps the worst time in Xbox's history, as the company is poised to shut down or sell off multiple studios. Playground appears to be safe from this round of layoffs, but the same cannot be said for Ninja Theory, Compulsion, and Double Fine. It's unclear what Xbox's expectations are for Fable, but given its lengthy development, we can assume they are quite high.
