Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves is out at last, bringing us the first follow-up to Mark of the Wolves in 26 years. Still, even after all that time away, this series is one of the best at providing character and player expression, as well as defensive options that help keep the game feeling balanced and exhilarating from encounter to encounter.

There are also a bunch of new additions to the series here as well, with one of the coolest being the Color Edit mode, allowing you to manually edit each character's appearance to apply unique Design Patterns, colors, and more to them, adding even more personality to your gameplay than ever before!

What Is Color Edit?

Color Edit is a mode in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves that allows you to change the color of your favorite fighters' hair, clothing, and accessories, as well as apply unique Design Patterns to specific articles of clothing, giving you even more options to be as expressive as you want in combat.

From the jump, you will have access to 40 Design Patterns, all of which have access to a variety of color palettes for the Pattern. While 40 is a high number, you can further increase the amount by a whopping 32, giving you access to 72 Design Patterns total in the game.

However, gaining access to the additional 32 Design Patterns will require a significant amount of time and effort on your part. It won't be challenging per se, just very, very time-consuming. Still, most of the cooler Patterns are the ones you must unlock, making them all the more enticing if you love customizing your favorite fighters!

How To Unlock More Design Patterns

You will unlock all additional Design Patterns through the Episodes of South Town single-player mode in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves. While this may not seem too bad at first, certain caveats make it a bit more grindy and time-consuming than you may realize.

For starters, each character can unlock two additional Design Patterns. Okay, fair enough. However, they won't be able to unlock them until they reach the South Town+ Map. What is the South Town+ map, you ask? It's essentially new game plus for this mode, meaning you must clear their normal mode first, before you can obtain their unique Pattern.

Furthermore, they won't be available until the last two regions of South Town+, which means you will be playing A LOT of this mode if you want to unlock every additional Design Pattern in the game, as you must complete Level 69 and Level 90 Stages to obtain the Patterns!

  • Clear Designated Stage

As you can tell, you have to level up quite a bit if you want to snag these unique Design Patterns to use on your favorite fighters. However, some good news is that if you, for example, unlock a Design Pattern with Mai, that Pattern can be applied to any of the other characters in the game, and so on, making it worth seeking the others out if you so wish.

Also, if you did the math in your head, you may have noticed that we're seemingly two Design Patterns short, since there are 17 characters available at launch. However, Christiano Ronaldo does not have an Episodes of South Town mode, meaning you cannot unlock Design Patterns with him, making them only available to unlock with the remaining 16 characters!
