You might do well to check back with this article in two days. Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 is not—and I must emphasize, is not—confirmed to be formally revealed at Summer Game Fest's showcase event this Friday, but odds are pretty darn good that it will be. Rebirth made its initial splash there in 2023, and with all the chatter series director Naoki Hamaguchi has been making about the upcoming finale all over the internet, it really does feel like it's prime time to take the lid off.

No wonder fans are in a tizzy to place last-minute predictions on the subtitle...

Forum Bets, Serious Business

This ResetEra thread is hardly the only place on the internet that's bursting with subtitle guesses this week, but it's exceptional in that the thread's creator, LaytonWright, has struck a deal with the gaming forum community's administration. Whoever gets it right will receive an otherwise-unobtainable profile banner: "Knights of the Round."

Now, my own Era banner is "Video Games Journalist." With a nice little "Verified" marker, too. I don't know that I'd necessarily want to trade that! But maybe! I certainly don't know FF7 Remake Part 3's subtitle, regardless. But it's been fun seeing what folks have chosen.

At the top of the list here, as well as in an overall speculation thread for the trilogy-capper, is "Final Fantasy 7 Return." Cites the first person to mention it, a user who goes by the moniker The Unsent, "Final Fantasy 7 Return, like Return to The Planet, seems the must obvious to me." Given the plot implications, to say nothing of the fact that there is a pretty good chance we'll be able to traverse the entire planet... I can see it. Many nods in agreement have followed. Enough, in fact, that there'll be a fair number of "Knights of the Round" should it come to pass.

Others stick to "Final Fantasy 7 Reunion." Which is the choice that most fans tend to make when they aren't aware of the developers' publicly-expressed chagrin over having chosen that subtitle for Crisis Core Final Fantasy 7 Reunion four years ago. Seeing as they outright said this means it's off the table, there's pretty good reason to assume that's the long and short of it—but never say never, as some are banking on Reunion, anyway, even knowing full-well what was stated.

"Final Fantasy 7 Reclaim" has a good few votes. Revive, Revival, and Requiem also make a fair dent. (My personal guess, by the way, is in fact Revival.) Reprise, Redemption, Recall, Remembrance, Revelation, Reunite, Returns, Relive, Reverse, Revenge, Renaissance, Reborn, Reunification, Retold, Renew, Recall, Rejoin, Resolve, and Retribution all have votes, and no, I would not speak this sentence aloud without taking at least one deep breath along the way.

Can you imagine if Part 3 doesn't actually begin with "Re-"?

It's worth noting, LaytonWright is also rolling a secondary competition, in which everybody takes a stab in the dark as to Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3's release date. Get it right (somehow) and you'll snag the "One Winged Angel" profile banner instead. Somehow get them both right, and I don't even know what happens to you, but you should probably play the lottery.
