  • Former Halo 5 developer reveals technical hurdles led to PC port being scrapped.
  • Rumors of a PC port circulating in 2021 were denied by community director.
  • Community can hope for a PC version, especially with the game's upcoming tenth anniversary.

It's been over nine years since Halo 5 launched. Despite having the lowest Metacritic score of all mainline games in the series' history, the title is remembered fondly by many.

Since its 2015 launch, though, one thing that's been conspicuously absent from Halo 5 is a PC version. It remains the only game not available on the platform, with The Master Chief Collection, which contains the four previous titles, dropping in 2019.

Now, a former dev who worked on the game has shed some light on why the PC version doesn't exist, breaking a few hearts in the process.

Halo 5 PC Port Was Reportedly Scrapped

Tyler Owens, an Apex Legends developer who worked at 343 Industries during the launch of Halo 5, shared a story of the game following its recent ninth anniversary, saying, "Each update I’d get 10 million points and unlock everything when it went live!" The post was greeted by a fan claiming to be "down bad for a true PC port."

I think the port that was being considered ran into significant tech hurdles and was scrapped.

It was here that Owens shared that, in his opinion, "it's never going to happen." In the same post, the build engineer said that one was being considered during his time at the studio but "ran into significant tech hurdles and was scrapped," crushing fans dreams in the process.

This isn't the first time that a Halo 5 PC port has been shot down, either. In 2021, rumors began to circulate that a PC port was finally happening, forcing Halo community director Brian Jarrad to say that it's "not on the cards", due to the company being "fully focused on Infinite and MCC". He did, however, claim "never say never", and given that it's the game's tenth anniversary next year we can live in hope.
