Summary

  • A Riot co-founder has backtracked on comments about Arcane skins potentially returning to Fortnite.
  • They initially implied they will never be back as their introduction was a one-time thing for Arcane's launch.
  • After backlash, they followed up by saying they'll look into it, but it's still unlikely they'll be back.

Rare skins returning to Fortnite after extended periods away from the game's store has been a hot topic this holiday season after Master Chief made a comeback on December 23. That has had players questioning when some of the even rarer crossover skins might make a comeback, particularly those who have accompanied the Halo hero in the Gaming Legends Series, and there's a very faint glimmer of hope for Arcane fans.

Delivering an unwanted Christmas gift to those fans, on December 25, Fortnite leaker Shiina (via Bamplbee2) broke the unfortunate news that Jinx and Vi's skins might never return. A Riot Games co-founder revealed that the Arcane studio decided to not have Vi and Jinx return to Fortnite, noting that it was done for the launch of season one and the show's creators haven't felt the need to do it since.

With Arcane ending following the culmination of its second season, and Vi and Jinx's skins remaining vaulted for the recent rollout of season two, those comments strongly implied that the skins might be among the first in Fortnite to be gone forever. However, the same Riot head who made those comments noticed Shiina's post going somewhat viral and has thrown those who'd like to see Arcane's Fortnite crossover return a lifeline.

It's Unlikely Jinx And Vi Will Return To Fortnite, But There's Hope

1,056 Days And Counting, Prepping For The Third Anniversary

"I will talk to the team about Arcane skins in Fortnite, not sure what we can do if anything, but I will look into it," the co-founder confirmed to all the Arcane and Fortnite fans out there. All of this comes 1,056 days after Vi and Jinx were last available to buy via Fortnite's in-game store. Skins and cosmetic items are cycled in and out, some more than others. Almost three years ago, Vi and Jinx left, possibly never to return.

There is hope, and there doesn't necessarily need to be something Arcane-related releasing for the skins to be brought back. Master Chief's long-awaited return was seemingly just a Christmas gift as there's nothing significant connected to Halo going on right now. Just a skin Fortnite players assumed we'd never get the chance to buy again returning to the store after more than 900 days away.

Riot's reveal that there is a chance crossover skins can be gone forever will have fans of certain other series worried, though. Some might have assumed Master Chief's return would be followed by Kratos who has been missing from the Fortnite store for a similar amount of time. However if, like Arcane, it's up to God Of War's developers whether Kratos returns, there's a chance his skin remains vaulted forever.
