Scammers Are Already Trying To Exploit Hype For GTA 6 With False Promises Of Early Access
Grand Theft Auto 6 hype is at an all-time high right now, with pre-orders set to begin later this week, letting everyone lock in their copies and know exactly how much they'll be paying for it. It's very likely that some might even get a little bit carried away in their excitement, but it's times like these during which we need to stay our most level-headed.
There's a ton of excitement surrounding GTA 6, and all the internet's worst actors know that too, so it's unsurprising to hear that there have been several scam websites popping up trying to sell snake oil to giddy GTA fans. First reported by Malwarebytes (thanks PC Gamer), it's been claimed that a "new wave of scam websites" has popped up trying to sell early access to GTA 6.
Be Safe GTA 6 Fans, Don't Get Scammed
Malwarebytes shows off a couple of examples, both of which contain AI-generated images of Grand Theft Auto 6's setting or its main characters Jason and Lucia, and both offering early access to digital GTA 6 content or access to the game itself. Both of them have the potential victim paying a large sum (far more than even the bleakest of estimates for the base game) in cryptocurrency.
The currency used is actually important, as it's worth noting that payments in cryptocurrency can't be refunded, nor are there any fraud departments to contact. If you pay in cryptocurrency, and it is a scam, then your money is simply gone.

People who haven't played a video game for the past decade will pick up a copy of GTA 6, and, due to how common crypto payments are these days, one could just naturally assume that's how it's done these days.
