One of the most powerful characters in the game is Lei Luo. He’s a one-shot specialist that meshes well with sniper rifles, crit builds, and shock damage, leaving the mobs dead as they’re still trying to spawn in. Here’s everything you need to know while you’re still grinding out his unlock.

How To Unlock Lei Luo

Luckily, Lei Luo can be earned through playing the game normally on PC. He will be available for play upon reaching Talent Level 55, so all you need to do is continue to play and level up via Soul Essence until he’s unlocked.

Every skill that you spend Soul Essence on can benefit every character in the game, so don’t fret over which ones to pick to optimize Lei Luo’s specific gameplay.

However, be advised that on Mobile, he’s only available through purchasing DLC.

Core Ability Overview

Name of Skill

Description of Skill

Primary

Fatal Current

Upon activation, Lei Luo’s screen changes, and he gains +30% movement speed and +50% skill damage for five seconds. Further, the first shot from your weapon deals 100% extra damage and summons an additional lightning bolt, but it ends the enhanced state.

Secondary

Chain Lightning

Deals a flat amount of shock damage and bounces to two other nearby enemies.

Unlike other characters in Gunfire Reborn that can run through the game without touching their abilities, Lei Luo’s gameplay revolves around them. Many of his talents relate to either buffing or extending the state of his Fatal Current, and there is a wide range of Occult Scrolls that can significantly raise the damage of his Chain Lightning attack.

Since you can only get one shot off while in Fatal Current, it’s ideal to use a weapon that has a high amount of damage and crit per shot, and this is why sniper rifles are optimal while playing on Lei Luo. Strike Wing is incredibly useful due to the damage and splitting projectiles after the first hit, but other viable options include Piercing Flame, Double Caliber, and Bloody Drill.

Because your Fatal Current is so important to Lei Luo’s play style, it’s also recommended that you grab the upgrade Magical Supply whenever you can. This allows you to instantly regain Fatal Current again if a shot from your weapon kills a target, but keep in mind that it does so with a 30 percent duration of the original. While it’s not strictly needed for every build, it never hurts to have it.

Lightning Governor

Chain Lightning will automatically be used with -2 bounces every second on random targets within 20 meters while Fatal Current is active.

Chain Lightning upgrades to be used automatically with -1 bounce every 0.85 seconds while Fatal Current is active.

Chain Lightning upgrades to be used automatically every 0.7 seconds while Fatal Current is active. If an enemy dies to an automatic Chain Lightning, it adds one more second to the current Fatal Current duration.

Bolt from the Blue

Adds three seconds to the duration of Fatal Current, along with a passive +50% skill damage. While Fatal Current is active, another thunderbolt will be summoned for every shock effect inflicted on an enemy.

Hyper Current

Doubles the amount of damage from Chain Lightning.

Triples the amount of damage from Chain Lightning.

Quadruples the amount of damage from Chain Lightning.

Tesla Coil

Chain Lightning gains +2 bounces, and Lei Luo can hold +2 more Chain Lightning.

Chain Lightning gains +3 bounces, and Lei Luo can hold +4 more Chain Lightning.

Chain Lightning gains +4 bounces, and Lei Luo can hold +6 more Chain Lightning. If Chain Lightning inflicts the shock effect on an enemy, Lei Luo immediately gains +1 use back.

In this build, Lightning Governor is your main bread and butter. Though it requires Fatal Current to be active, it does passive damageto everything around you, allowing you to simply walk through enemies and bask in their dropped gold and Soul Essence. It’s a good idea to reduce the cooldown of Fatal Current with Occult Scrolls or other upgrades, such as Heart of Battle.

Bolt from the Blue is another no-brainer for this build. While Lightning Governor does its work, the Chain Lightning will automatically be triggering the shock effect, giving you free damage in the form of extra summoned thunderbolts.

Hyper Current and Tesla Coil only further the viability of this build by increasing the overall damage of Lightning Governor. As the damage scales higher and bounces around even more enemies, the game becomes less about how to take down tougher foes and more about how to extend Fatal Current’s duration, which is where Magical Supply comes in handy.

There are other upgrades that work nicely with this build but aren’t required, like Thunder Nemesis, which sees extra thunderbolts summoned whenever Fatal Current begins or ends. These can be accepted when the loot table for Golden Goblet is less than ideal and none of the other main upgrades show up.

As suggested earlier, this build is strong in the late-game, requiring little to no effort other than pressing Fatal Current now and again. The ability to become insanely overpowered is the core of a proper roguelite, and the feeling of successfully building into it is a rush like no other.

However, there are still some downsides. Due to the random nature of Lightning Governor, the procs of Chain Lightning can pursue targetable projectiles instead of the enemies casting them. This can be frustrating when going against bosses like Golem or Ichthyosaurus Offspring. Along with this, Chain Lightning needs a line of sight to work properly, and it is often absorbed by walls or obstacles in a crowded room. These are weaknesses that the other main build doesn’t suffer from.

Upon landing a crit hit on an enemy, that enemy takes 40% increased crit damage from any weapon for the next five seconds.

Thunder Turbo

Gain one stack of Thunder Turbo whenever an enemy dies to a crit hit, or two stacks if the weapon shot from Fatal Current kills an enemy, up to eight stacks. Each stack increases weapon and skill damage by 5%. You lose all stacks if Lei Luo's shield is broken.

The damage multiplier from each stack of Thunder Turbo is increased to 10%.

The damage multiplier from each stack of Thunder Turbo is increased to 15%. You lose only half of the stacks if Lei Luo's shield is broken.

This side of Lei Luo is the epitome of a sniper. Storm Blast is the main focus here, as it increases the Fatal Current shot by ludicrous amounts. Just achieving a level three Storm Blast is more than enough to carry Lei Luo through the entire game. Therefore, it is paramount to pair this with Magical Supply, as Fatal Current and Storm Blast will reset upon every kill.

But if Storm Blast isn’t enough damage, Eye of the Storm increases it even further, given that you’re using a sniper. If the enemy doesn’t fall with the first shot, Eye of the Storm ensures that the next few will take them down.

And if you’re using a sniper, you’ll likely be further away from the action, making Shadow Knight a phenomenal tie-in. This is a great ability that really adds to the feel of a sniper class, encouraging Lei Luo to play back for massive amounts of damage.

Voltage Surge and Thunder Turbo appear to do the same thing on the surface, but in actuality they stack with one another, making for even more mayhem. By the time you’ve added these two abilities on top of the others, you’ll already have been dominating the game.

This build really excels at taking down bosses very quickly. It isn’t a stretch to see Lei Luo two-shot, or in some lucky cases, one-shotmini-bosses in Vaults or proper floor bosses. It also shines in multiplayer, as one person can aggro the mobs to allow Lei Luo the space he needs to pick them off from a distance.

But once again, this isn’t without its own hiccups. While this build fills in the cracks of the previous one, it’s not as strong in some areas, namely dealing with crowds. It can be stressful to try and manage your Fatal Current while being swarmed with enemies, and you’ll no longer have that nice bonus from Shadow Knight if they get too close.

General Tips

  • With Lei Luo, you’ll want to always be aiming for headshots, especially if you’re attempting to go for a sniper build. He thrives off crit hits, and so it’s a good idea to try and find Occult Scrolls that either give you more crit or lucky chance, like Ninja’s Discipline or Good and Evil.
  • Because his shock damage is such a main part of his identity, you’ll also want to find Occult Scrolls that increase shock or overall elemental damage. Scrolls like Lightning Shard or Surprise Bonus are fantastic picks on Lei Luo.
  • Finally, Scrolls that encourage playing back and staying away from enemies meshes very well with Shadow Knight. Try to find Lone Ranger, Deflection Shield, or Long Shot for even bigger numbers whenever you land a headshot.
