Ghost Of Yotei Reveal Causes Massive Ghost Of Tsushima Player Boost
Summary
- Ghost of Yotei was revealed in PlayStation's latest State of Play showcase, and seems to have caused a surge of people to check out its predecessor, Ghost of Tsushima.
- Ghost of Tsushima player numbers apparently saw a 53 percent boost during the week after Yotei's reveal, which is higher than newly released games like The Plucky Squire.
- It's likely that the boost is a mixture of new and returning players, but it seems pretty clear that there's a big appetite for another entry in the Ghost series.
Ghost of Yotei was revealed last month, which saved PlayStation's most recent State of Play from becoming yet another snooze fest. In the game's trailer, we saw that it will take place several hundred years after Ghost of Tsushima, it will feature a female protagonist this time around, and Sucker Punch explained afterward exactly why the series is starting fresh.
Despite the fact that Ghost of Yotei will have very little to do with Ghost of Tsushima, what with Jin Sakai being long dead and buried, people have seemingly been playing the game in droves ahead of the game's launch next year.
Ghost Of Yotei Reveal Causes Massive Ghost Of Tsushima Player Boost
Sony/Sucker PunchAccording to outlet TrueTrophies, which claims to track the weekly player numbers of every popular PS4 and PS5 game on the platforms, Ghost of Tsushima saw a whopping 53 percent player boost during the week after Ghost of Yotei was officially revealed, as the game rose from #35 in the charts to #26. That's just 17.9 percent less than The Last of Us Part 1, which was recently released on PlayStation Plus Extra.

Bringing back Jin Sakai for Ghost of Yotei would have robbed him of the ending he deserved.
Posts 3 By Vaspaan DastoorUnfortunately, we have no idea whether this massive boost is players simply returning, or newcomers to the series entirely. It's possible that Ghost of Yotei's reveal could have bumped Ghost of Tsushima up the backlogs of several people that were planning to get around to the game eventually, or it could be that the announcement inspired people to give the game a replay. It's most likely a mixture of both.
Still, that's a great sign that players are hungry for another entry in the Ghost series, and now all we have to do is wait for Sucker Punch to actually drop the date. I guess there are worse ways to spend the wait than play through Jin Sakai's story a second or third time.
