Summary

  • Grand Theft Auto 6's delay has fans feeling the doom and gloom, as many are already bracing themselves for a second delay.
  • Fans have pointed out that Rockstar's radio silence between the first trailer and delay announcement is proof that GTA 6 is "crazy behind schedule".
  • There are now fears that the game will be pushed to Fall 2026, or even 2027/2028.

Grand Theft Auto 6 was delayed a few days ago, which is news that quite a lot of people out there expected. Pretty much all of Rockstar's major projects have been delayed in the past, and the radio silence over GTA 6 - despite Take-Two promising the game would launch at some point in 2025 - were signs that the wait was going to be longer than expected.

In fact, that same radio silence, that previously had GTA fans coming up with all kinds of weird conspiracies about release dates, now seems to be a source of doom and gloom for the community. On the GTA 6 subreddit, a user called Nonesuch1221 made a graph to point out just how odd Rockstar's silence was in the run-up to the delay announcement.

GTA 6's Radio Silence Has Fans Worried A Second Delay Is Coming

In the post, they show via a couple of timelines that even when they were delayed, GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 got new screenshots. We didn't get anything of the sort for GTA 6's delay, and it's very noticeable that the period between the first trailer and the delay for GTA 6 is a lot longer than previous games.

It's not a great sign, and GTA 6 fans haven't been taking it too well. In the replies to the post, you have many people already preparing themselves for a second delay. A user called Ant0n61, thinks that GTA 6 is "crazy behind schedule", and that a second delay is almost guaranteed if we get no updates this summer.

Another user called DetColePhelps11k reckons that GTA 6 will be pushed back to Fall 2026, while Wonderful_Catch_8194 goes as far as predicting that the game won't actually launch "until late 2027 to mid 2028". Then you have people like Independent-Bat1315 going full Silksong, claiming that GTA 6 was actually "a massive psyop". Then again, you can't even make that joke anymore, given Silksong is actually releasing this year.

A lot of fans also seem to believe that the infamous GTA 6 leaks could have had something to do with the silence, and that Rockstar could have released the game's first trailer early to combat that. Then again, if it was a trailer responding to leaks, that wouldn't really explain why Rockstar and Take-Two slapped a 2025 release window on the title. Hopefully, we'll get some more news this summer.
