"My Hype For This Game Has Officially Died": GTA Fans Are Not Taking The Delay News Gently
Summary
- With Grand Theft Auto 6 officially delayed into 2026, fans are finding out the news in real-time.
- Taking to Reddit, fans have not taken the news lightly, with many expressing their disappointment in going another year without the highly-anticipated title.
- It's unclear when the next batch of information will come, but it is clear that fans are getting tired of waiting for any semblance of news.
If you thought literally any fandom was full of wild theories and speculation, then clearly you haven't met Grand Theft Auto fans. Specifically, Grand Theft Auto 6 fans.
Desperate for any crumb of information, they began trying to identify the "Mud Girl" from the first GTA 6 trailer. Those same fans also speculated that a new trailer was on the way after Rockstar created a Discord server. There was also the time they were convinced a trailer was coming after a post about a car on social media. Oh, and lest we forget the time they turned to the actual real-life moon to try and pinpoint the next trailer.
Point being — GTA 6 fans were hyped about the game. Keyword: were. Because after it was revealed on Friday that the game would no longer come out in 2025, instead being delayed into May 2026, those same fans did not take the news lightly.

Over on the GTA6 subreddit, the news has gone as well as expected, with fans chiming in left and right with their disappointment. "TakeTwoDecades," one gamer wrote, pointing to the long stretch between GTA 5 and 6.
"At least give us a screenshot. This is ridiculous even for R*," another user wrote. "1.5 years of silence just to drop a delay news without even showing us bread crumbs of the game?"
To be fair, that fan has a point. Rockstar is notoriously secretive, but the lack of GTA 6 news is pretty bizarre by their own standards.
"Lowkey just so over this game now, it's never gonna live up to the hype," one gamer expressed in part. Another fan shared that same sentiment, adding, "My hype for this game has officially died."
No matter which way you shake it, fans, especially hardcore GTA fans, are really disappointed. The only people who may not be disappointed are competing publishers, as analysts believe they can "breathe a sigh of relief" after the delay. Still, considering how long the entire industry has been waiting, it's hard not to feel some type of way.
