While this quest sounds straightforward, there are actually several ways you can approach it, with a few options to tackle various objectives along the way. Below, we'll take a look at how to complete this quest and walk you through each of the choices you can make throughout it.

GreedFall 2: The Dying World is currently in early access. The content below is subject to change over the course of development.

How To Complete A Dying Forest

Your ultimate goal for this quest is to find out why the forest game is disappearing, and then find a solution.

The first step is to speak to Denid in the village, who will give you your first hint for how to proceed.

How To Find The Clan Hunters

Denid will tell you about the hunters that went searching for the disappearing game, hinting that finding them might lead to you discovering the true cause as well. Set out for the Ancient Forest, heading south towards the hunter's camp.

At the camp, use the tracking mode to find the hunters' tracks. These will point you to the east out of the camp for a short distance before turning to the north.

The footprints don't appear in tracking mode after discovering the first set, so it might be easier to turn tracking mode off and look at the ground instead to follow the footprints.

Keep following the footprints until you reach an area with traps. As you move through this area, be careful not to step on any of the traps; doing so will inflict a long bleed debuff on you that deals damage over time. You can either sneak past the traps to avoid touching them or use the Mechanics skill todisarm them.

After following the tracks a bit further, you'll see the hunters being attacked by wolves. Approach them to begin a battle with the wolves. Fight off this group of wolves, then another group, then speak to the hunters.

Roarg and Berag are caught in the traps, so you'll need to find some way of helping them. You have two options here; you can either try to disarm the traps yourself or find the foreigners that have settled in the woods, who the traps presumably belong to, to help you disarm them.

Disarming the traps yourself will save you a bit of trouble in the short-term, but if your Mechanics skill is low it may not be worth attempting.

How To Help The Hunters

To find the foreigners, head east towards the Trapper's Camp. This is technically a restricted area, but you won't be attacked for just walking in.

Speak to the trappers and ask for their help removing the traps. They will demand 20 gold for their aid. If you have it, you can pay it now; otherwise, you'll need to go get some gold.

Before you leave the camp, open up the nearby chest to get a shovel and some other supplies that you'll need later. Now, read the note nearby to learn of the trapper's buried treasure.

If you don't already have it, there are a few ways to get the gold you need to pay for the trapper's aid. You can sell items to the merchant in your village, or you can try looking for the trapper's treasure.

The treasure is located in a small alcove to the south of the Trapper's Camp. Use the shovel here to dig up the Trapper's Loot, which is worth 2,000 gold. Now, return to your village and sell it to the merchant to pocket the gold.

Head back to the camp and speak to the trapper once more, then pay the 20 gold. Doing this will have you return to Roarg and Berag, and the trapper will remove the traps for you.

Although the traps are removed, the hunters will need a few supplies to get moving again. You will now need to get two Minor Lizard Ointments and two Minor Healing Potions. If you tried to remove the traps yourself and failed, you'll also need some Splints.

You can either buy all of these items from the merchant in the village, or craft them yourself if you have the necessary ingredients and skill level. Additionally, you can get Minor Healing Potions from the chest in the trapper's camp.

Once you've gotten the supplies you need, head back to the hunters and speak to them to heal them up.

How To Persuade The Trappers To Leave

With the village hunters healed, you'll now need to finally get the trappers to leave in order to prevent them from hunting all of the game. You have a few options here to make them leave.

You can either

  • Offer a trade
  • Pay 2,000 gold
  • Try diplomacy
  • Kill them

Of these options, we recommend first trying a diplomacy check. Be sure to save before, then talk to the trapper and roll a diplomacy check. If you're successful, the trappers will agree to leave, completing the quest.

If your diplomacy fails, you can always try trading or paying them to leave, using the gold you earned by selling the Trapper's Loot from earlier. Alternatively, you can try to fight your way out, but these enemies may prove difficult, especially if you're under-leveled and under-geared.

In any case, once the trappers agree to leave, 'A Dying Forest' will be complete, earning you a bit of experience and some equipment.
