As part of your doneigad initiation quest in Greedfall 2: The Dying World, you'll be required to investigate the devious and dangerous illness that's ravaging your village. This is an interesting quest that will introduce you quickly to the differences between the natives of Teer Fradee and the foreigners who come to exploit the island's natural resources.

There are multiple objectives and steps to complete in this quest, with many ways to complete individual tasks. There's a not-insubstantial element of risk involved, too, so we'll take you through the entire quest, helping you to complete it without any troubles.

Greedfall 2: The Dying World is currently in Early Access. The details below are subject to changes over the course of development.

How To Complete A New Evil

After completing the combat tutorial and learning of your tasks, you can begin A New Evil in earnest. To start, you'll need to go talk to Toflan, who can be found at the north end of Vigeshvar, your home village.

Speak to Toflan and ask him for information about the sick. Talk to the patients about every option when prompted - you'll be given some clues as to how to proceed, namely the location of a fishing spot that the patients frequented.

Before leaving the village, it's a good idea to pick up the quest The Missing Scales by talking to Armal in the Visitors' House - you'll be able to complete this quest concurrently with this one.

How To Examine The Fishing Spot

To reach the peninsula you learned about, leave the village to the south and then head east, towards the quest marker (make sure you're following the quest in your journal menu to make this marker stand out).

On the way, you'll be taught about stealth via a popup. You have a secondary goal of avoiding combat with any of the native beasts of the land, so crouch and sneak through the red bushes to easily avoid them if you want to pursue this sub-goal. It's not necessary, though.

When you reach the Fishing Spot, which is denoted by the large search area on your map, you'll be taught about the game's Tracking mode.

There are two spots to examine here to progress the quest:

  • The patches of bile and puke on the ground to the north of the Fishing Spot's centre.
  • The dead fish on the ground at the riverbank.

When prompted, you'll be able to examine the pile of bile on the ground using a Survival skill check. Don't worry if this fails - you can still manually find the goal of this stage of the quest.

Succeeding, however, will make some footprints appear that you can follow in Tracking mode, which makes it an easier trail to follow.

Head north from the Fishing Spot, attempting the Survival checks as you go, until you end up directed to the west. The final spot you need to head to is directly northwest of the magnifying glass icon on the map when following this quest.

There are some lewolans here - either fight or sneak past them, and examine the dead lewolan to the north.

How To Inspect The Mine

Through the conversation about the lewolan, your party will deduce that the mine needs to be investigated. It's only a little to the north - head there now.

You'll enter a conversation with two miners automatically. During this chat, passing the Diplomacy check will automatically get you the information you need to enter the mine peacefully. If you don't want to risk failure, you can simply 'Ask Nilan to be quiet' to get the same information without worry.

If you agree with Nilan, you'll be forced to fight four miners, which can be a tricky fight based on your tactics - they like to constantly attack, even knocked-down characters and keep them out of the fight.

This method will force you to infiltrate the mines through stealth or attack, which is not recommended due to its difficulty and the absolute lack of positives it brings - we will not be covering this method in this walkthrough.

Examine the cart next to the miners to get a Mud Sample that you'll use later.

After learning of Ganimet's name, you can head further north and ask the Dog Handling Instructor at the mine's entrance for work, which will grant you access to the mine.

Head all the way north to the entrance of the mine proper, and you'll meet theMine Supervisor in a cutscene.

In the conversation, you'll learn of a theft that the natives of the island are being blamed for. Accept the offer to help investigate when prompted.

How To Clear Your People's Name

Follow the Mine Supervisor after the conversation and you'll automatically enter the Storeroom. Enter Tracking mode here and examine everything that glows - the bow, the lock on the ground, the tracks at the back of the Storeroom, and the birch leaves.

You can attempt to pick the lock on the chest here and loot its contents - doing this will not impact your reputation or relationship with the miner workers.

When prompted, leave the Storeroom and report your findings to the Miner Supervisor. This will get you a chunk of experience, a key to the Mines, and three Pickaxes.

A Pickaxe might make for a better weapon than your starting weapon if you're a melee fighter. Compare the stats between your current weapon and one of the Pickaxes.

Head back to the mine's entrance and use the key to unlock the door. You could try a Mechanics check for some extra experience, but it isn't necessary.

How To Save The Miners

After making just a little progress in the mine, you'll be alerted to some trapped miners, which gives you a new task - freeing them. The miners are trapped behind some rubble up a slope too steep to climb, so you'll have to make your way through the entire mine.

The path through the mine is a linear, one-way route. Along the way, you can examine ore veins to get some crafting materials and explore to find some chests to loot.

When you meet up with a miner threatening a native, passing a Diplomacy check will end the conversation relatively peacefully and get you some experience. If you fail, you'll have to put the miner down.

The eastern edge of the route through the mine will eventually have a fork in the road - taking the path to the right instead of continuing on will lead to Vlann, from the Missing Scales quest.

Eventually, you'll reach the end of the path, which features the other end of the trapped miners' section of the mine and a restricted section belonging to the Bridge Alliance. You'll need explosives to break through the wall to free the miners, but these can only be found in the restricted section.

Trying to take out the Bridge Alliance soldiers is a very difficult feat. Simply sneak in, open the chest on the lower level of the area and steal the Dynamite, and then dash out of the restricted area to immediately end the inevitable combat with the soldiers.

You'll get a reputation hit with the Bridge Alliance if you're caught, but you can consider this inconsequential in the long run.

With the Dynamite, you can destroy the rubble blocking your way to the trapped miners. Be sure to stand outside the explosion's radius.

Speak to the miners and then explode the other rubble wall to free them once and for all. With that done, you can leave the mine and speak to the Mine Supervisor to resign from your job, which will get you a smattering of gold.

How To Analyse The Samples

You'll need to head to the colonists' fort to analyse the samples you've taken, which is found on the east side of the Lake Region.

Talk to the Fort Captain in his office, which you can find by following the quest markers, and speak to him about the possibly-poisoned items from the mine. He'll direct you to the fort's doctor, who is helpfully in the same room.

If this is your first time meeting the Fort Captain, you'll also pick up the Influence in the Council of Renewal quest.

Speak to the Fort Doctor when you're able to leave the conversation with the Captain and ask her to analyse the samples for you. Wait for her to finish the analysis, and then ask her for treatment when prompted. You'll get the Quicksilver Poisoning Treatment. The only thing left is to shut down the mine and deliver the treatment.

How To Shut Down The Mine

There are multiple ways to shut down the mine:

  • You can speak to the miners outside the mine, near the fast travel point. Telling them about your discoveries will horrify them, forcing them to stop work at the mine.
  • You can also try tackling the Mine Supervisor.
  • You can also work with Furkan to forge a document ordering the mine to be shut down. To do this, you need to steal a seal from the restricted area in the Fort Captain's building, which is easily accessible from the back.

Any method will work for the purposes of this quest.

How To Heal The Sick

Once you know the source of the sickness and have acquired the Quicksilver Treatment, simply return to the village and speak to Toflan. You will give him the medicine and complete the quest.

Completing the quest will get you a big chunk of experience and the Sap Bearer Bracelets, which are more powerful than the default bracelets that the game provides.
