Thanks to the ability to customize your weapons in Helldivers 2, you can now make your favorite weapon behave the way you want it to. Instead of grinding for Medals to buy new guns via the Warbonds, you can change certain guns to make them stronger than even the deadliest weapons in your arsenal.

In turn, the fights you get into against the Terminids, Automatons, and the Illuminate can be won more easily. Having a weapon that is almost one of a kind can get you immersed in the combat.

How To Level Up A Weapon

Altering your weapon is fairly streamlined in the game. Much like other shooters, you simply need to play Helldivers 2 in order to level up your guns. However, to get the most out of this feature, there are a few things you need to go through.

First, this feature is only accessible to primary weapons like the LAS-17 Double-Edge Sickle. Next, you need to equip whichever weapon you want to use; just take note that it is a primary gun.

While customizing weapons works for the main firearm, you can't change any special primary weapons you have. For example, if you own the StA-11 SMG or any other weapon from the Killzone crossover event, those weapons cannot be modified. Meaning, the gun you use has to be from the main Helldivers 2 universe.

Once you're all ready, you can head into any match against any faction.

You should use the following methods to get the maximum amount of XP:

  • Completing the optional objectives.
  • Make sure everyone in your team gets extracted.
  • Playing the mission on a harder difficulty.

How To Customize A Weapon

Head to your Armory in the center of the ship. You'll land on the loadout menu where you can change your entire kit before battle. In this menu, look for the Weaponry tab. It'll be located at the top.

When you reach the Weaponry screen, it should already be in the Primary weapon section. If not, then navigate to the top left and select the Primary tab. From here, you can see all the modifiable weapons.

When you press the Customize option on the weapon you want, you'll be taken to a new page showing every available attachment. If you're starting, most will be locked behind levels you need to reach first.

However, even if you're at the appropriate level for the attachment you want, you may need to spend Requisition Slips to purchase the modification.

Once that's done, you can freely swap in and out attachments you have, provided they are for the gun you're using.

Additionally, cosmetic Patterns are also earned this way. They'll be in their respective section for the weapon you're changing.

You'll be able to have up to three configurations on the same weapon. It's recommended you experiment with each attachment you get and save the ones you like in each loadout.

As mentioned, these attachments will change how the weapons behave. An underbarrel may alter how much recoil the weapon has, or a scope can change the speed at how fast you aim down sights. So, it's important to look at those numbers when adding attachments.

Finally, not every weapon will offer the same number of modifications. Some may only allow you to change the skin, while others might give you one or two options to change. Keep this crucial detail in mind as you customize your weapons.
