Helldivers 2 players have a love-hate relationship with the game. It was absolutely adored at launch, until Arrowhead started nerfing fan-favourite weapons. Things were back to normal after the developer's 60-day update plan and went downhill again after the DSS turned out to be a bust. Among all this is the long-awaited arrival of the Illuminate, which players are getting tired of.

It's safe to say that fans are happiest whenever the devs add something new to the game. Besides the Illuminate, one of the most requested features for Helldivers 2 is a codex which would give players more information about enemies and the game in general. Tired of waiting, one fan took it upon themselves to create one.

Fine, I'll Do It Myself

Redditor DeadManSpooks decided to create a mockup for an in-game encyclopedia and posted it in the Helldivers 2 subreddit. Created using the design philosophy of the game itself, the encyclopedia acts as more than just a codex. As you'd expect, it gives you information on Terminid and Automaton units, like what kind of armour they have, their weaknesses, and where you can find them.

Additional tabs include information on strategies and various terminologies used in the game, like Supply Lines, Planetary Control, and Decay Rates. This is great for anyone who's new to the game or has come back after a long time.

The comments section was highly appreciative of this, saying this kind of codex is exactly what the game needs, especially to bring back players who've fallen off and to get newer players acclimated.

One comment said, "this needs some more attention! This would solve the players lack of knowledge of certain things never being explained, and would be a great way to deepen the lore in a humorously satirical way." Another said that the codex should be narrated by General Brasch like the Mass Effect codex.

Currently, the sentiment for Helldivers 2 has returned to the same level it was at launch. After a tumultuous few months, the game's reviews have returned to Overwhelmingly Positive on Steam.
