Last week, Helldivers 2 made a surprise appearance at The Game Awards to announce the imminent invasion of the Illuminate. What ensued after was a weekend of fighting that saw Helldivers return to the game in droves, and the Illuminate were eventually wiped out.

We know for a fact that Super Earth's enemies have a habit of returning in force though, which we saw from the brief eradication of the Automatons earlier this year. It was just a matter of figuring out exactly when the Illuminate would come back swinging, but it turns out they've recovered from their bruising a lot quicker than anticipated.

Helldivers 2 Illuminate Are Already Back

On the same day that saw Helldivers completely wipe out the Illuminate on Calypso, the faction has now returned to assault Genesis Prime. In a new Major Order, all Helldivers are now ordered to descend upon Genesis Prime to destroy the "limited" number of Illuminates in an attempt to complete the eradication process.

As you might expect, this very swift return has shocked quite a few fans, who are now scrambling to dive back into the game and stick it to the Illuminate once more. All across social media, you'll find posts like Reddit user DrGooseThumb's quickly alerting fellow Helldivers to the danger in an attempt to bring in some extra reinforcements.

That's pretty bad considering they were once thought wiped out, hinting that there could be even more surprise invasions in the future. On the plus side, it does give everyone who may have missed the first Illuminate invasion another chance to kick some squid backside. if you're one of those people, get your keister down to Genesis Prime before we eradicate them again.
