Summary

  • Following the review bomb campaign over Helldivers 2 announcing mandatory PSN account linking, Arrowhead teased a cape to commemorate Sony walking back the requirement.
  • However, six months later and another review bombing campaign down, there's no sign of the cape.

Earlier this year, Helldivers 2 announced that players would soon have to create a PSN account to keep playing. The move was so controversial that the community launched a review bombing campaign, dragging the score down to such a point that Sony walked back the announcement and made the entire thing optional.

Players joked that Helldivers 2 should add a cape to commemorate the news, to which CEO Johan Pilestedt replied, "The team is talking about a good name for it right now", even sharing a teaser of the design. However, six months later, there's no sign of it in-game.

It's Probably Too Late For It Now

Helldivers 2 was review bombed again in September after some controversial nerfs. Like before, the community used the overall Steam score to make their voices heard, dragging the game down to 'Mostly Negative'.

Arrowhead responded by announcing more buffs to several weapons and strategems, pledging that it would address the backlash and re-balance much of the game. Once again, the score recovered.

Helldivers 2 Devs Don't Want To "Dilute" The Game With Crossovers

Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead has plenty of ideas for crossovers, but it won't "dilute" the game for them.

Had the cape been added shortly after the initial review bomb campaign, it would have made sense. But we've had another since then, muddying the waters. That's not to mention that the game remains delisted in several countries due to the PSN update, so the issue isn't completely resolved even half a year later.
