Summary

  • Hollow Knight: Silksong fans are in a frenzy over an official sprite of main character Hornet that has her in the buff.
  • Released as part of Game Worlds' upcoming Hollow Knight: Silksong exhibition this September, this sprite has Hornet completely starkers with her cloak in her arms.
  • Of course, there are already theories, including one which reckons Hornet's cloak can be improved, and that she'll need to take it off to get the upgrades.

Hollow Knight: Silksong is coming this year, and there's almost no reason to think otherwise. We have Nintendo's word that it's dropping in 2025, we've had several hints about a release date reveal this summer, and a company called ACMI has claimed that Hollow Knight: Silksong will be playable at its Game Worlds exhibition this September. I'm a true believer.

If not now, then when?

In fact, Game Worlds recently doubled down on Hollow Knight: Silksong's inclusion by revealing its special exhibit to IGN earlier today. As part of that announcement, a sprite sheet for the main character - Hornet - was shared, which shows the character in various poses and positions that she will likely be in when the final game finally drops.

It's a pretty cool snapshot of development, but there's one particular sprite on the sheet that Hollow Knight fans are fixated on, and of course, it's the one that has Hornet in the buff. Reddit user Germanstrands3 shared the full sheet with the Hollow Knight: Silksong subreddit earlier today, and you can see the sprite in question on the right side about halfway up, which shows Hornet fully starkers, holding her cloak in her right hand.

Hollow Knight: Silksong Development Materials Include A Bare Hornet Sprite

Of course, this sent an already unhinged fanbase into complete overdrive. It's a discovery that had reactions ranging from complete shock, demanding Hornet put her cloak back on, to the more expected downright degeneracy. The only thing that is consistent is the complete bewilderment as to what situation would force Hornet to strip down in the first place.

There are, of course, plenty of theories. In a different Reddit thread, a user called Timothy-M& reckons it may be something to do with Hornet "going for a swim", while there's a more popular theory that reckons Hornet's cloak can be improved throughout the game, and that she'll take it off to get it upgraded. Either way, I'm not sure many of us had an official bare Hornet sprite on our 2025 bingo cards.
