The boss, seemingly dressed as a conductor, doesn't just send enemies, but will step into the field to take care of Nikki himself. You will need to be careful when you go near him to attack.
How To Unlock The Thing In The Mist Boss
The Thing In The Mist Boss unlocks during Chapter 2 of the Serenity Island's exclusive quest. After completing the quest Contamination, Yet A Trace, you will unlock the Thunder Rumbles Through The Mist quest, where you find and explore a cavern. At the end of the cavern, you will be transported to a mysterious location where you will face off against the boss.
How To Defeat The Thing In The Mist
During the first phase of the battle, it will hurl some Esselings your way while also attacking you. So you need to dodge the boss' attacks and also defeat all enemies in the field. It will do that a couple of times, and after that Thing In The Mist will become corrupted, which is where the second phase of the battle starts.
The boss will attack you with long-range attacks during the first phase, which you can dodge by observing their trajectory. These attacks are in the form of slashes, projectiles, tornadoes, and orbs.
Equip the Floral Gliding outfit before the second phase starts. You will definitely need it.
You now have to fight the actual boss instead of the mobs, but since it's high in the skies, you will need to glide to reach it. Once you are directly above its head, plunge to deal damage. You have to hit it three times, but it's easier said than done as the boss gets quite aggressive as well.
The best time to attack is when the boss stops after its attacking spree.

How To Avoid
The boss will shoot several tornadoes towards you
If you are in your Floral Gliding outfit, you should try to go past them and avoid their trajectory.
The boss will shoot a cluster of orbs in successive combos.
Keep moving forward in the opposite direction of their trajectory, and you won't run into them while you are in the air.
The boss will do rapid slashes with the staff in his hand. It may also shoot slashes your way.
This is a very aggressive attack and often harder to dodge, just don't go near to attack it if it starts doing it.
During its last remaining health, the boss will summon a huge number of orbs in the sky which will rapidly attack you with projectiles.
Try to stay in the center and don't rush into the flurry of projectiles. They will dissipate after a while.
Rewards After Defeating Thing In The Mist
You will receive a Rare Piece called Gentle Guidance which is a five star handheld Accessory after you defeat the boss. You need the following materials to craft it.
- Unyielding Leather x 5
- Bedrock Crystal: Energy x 20
- Delusional Button x30
- Melancholy Beads x 8
- Thread of Purity x 180
