Kingdom Hearts 3 is a fantastic game, but there’s always room for at least some improvement. Thankfully, the game has an active modding community, letting you fine tune your Kingdom Hearts 3 experience. From quality-of-life updates to fan content wishes to goofy changes, there’s a ton of different mods for the game to choose from.

Do you wish you could play as a different lead character? There’s a mod for that. Several, actually. Do you wish you could get Donald and Goofy to stop talking about ingredients? You’re in luck! If you’re looking for a new twist on your Kingdom Hearts 3 game, look no further than these mods.

10 Vanitas Edition

If you’re looking to play as a character other than Sora, you can take your pick of characters, with mods for playable Roxas, Xion, Aqua, and more. One of the smoothest and unique is Playable Vanitas. This mod also includes Vanitas’s Void Gear mapped over the Kingdom Key.

It’s fun to play Kingdom Hearts 3 as one of the villains, and since Vanitas is essentially Sora's evil twin, the swap works pretty well. Although, it is fairly unnerving seeing Vanitas fight alongside Donald and Goofy…

9 Everything’s For Sale

Whether you’re attempting to unlock every single Keyblade or find all the rare synthesis materials you need, it can be a frustrating process. Luckily, the Everything’s For Sale mod lets you buy pretty much every item in the game, as the name suggests.

The only items not included are the Gummi Ship parts, but you can buy all Summons, Keyblades (including the Ultima Weapon), and Key Items. Most of the added items are free. You can even max out your inventory and purchase 99 of the same keyblade, if you want, and you can sell items you normally wouldn’t be able to.

8 Olympus Coliseum

The Olympus Coliseum has been a staple of the Kingdom Hearts series, providing extra challenge through combat tournaments. As such, it was more than a little disappointing for the Coliseum to not make a comeback in Kingdom Hearts 3.

But, thanks to the Olympus Coliseum mod, the Coliseum returns! With this mod, the Coliseum is added as one of the location options in the Realm of the Gods. You can take on past Cups from Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2, as well as the custom Cups created for the mod.

7 Party Customization

Though Donald and Goofy are iconic friends and partners for Sora across the Kingdom Hearts series, with so many fantastic Disney and original characters in the games, sometimes we wish for a different party lineup. With the Party Customization mod, you can do just that.

The mod contains several files for alternate party options you can equip regardless of what world you’re in. Whether you want to team up with Axel and Xion or Buzz Lightyear and Rapunzel, you can make it happen. The mod also has a file that prevents your party members from dying, which is another nice perk.

6 No More Ingredients

One of the universally acknowledged annoyances of the Kingdom Hearts 3 is the incessant comments from Donald and Goofy about lucky emblems and ingredients. Even when one of these objects is clearly visible, they comment on it, just to make sure you know there’s a lucky emblem nearby. Not only is it just obnoxious, but it does remove some challenge from the game.

Thankfully, Donald and Goofy’s comments on ingredients and lucky emblems can be no more with this mod. No More Ingredients removes their dialogue, both spoken and the subtitles, from the game. It’s a simple fix, but needed.

5 Buster Sword

Final Fantasy 7’s Cloud Strife may not make an appearance in Kingdom Hearts 3, but that doesn’t mean his sword can’t! While there are a few mods for alternate weapons for Sora, the Buster Sword mod is a great callback to the Final Fantasy appearances in the Kingdom Hearts series.

The mod is one of the simpler ones: it maps the Buster Sword over Sora’s classic Kingdom Key. Though it is twice the size of Sora, he doesn’t look awkward wielding it at all. In fact, the Buster Sword in Sora’s hands looks epic.

4 Map Enhancement Overhaul

The maps of Kingdom Hearts 3 are fairly direct. They show you where to go in each world, and that’s about it. With the Map Enhancement Overhaul mod, maps can become more useful for you. The mod adds map icons to show you collectible locations, like Treasure Chests and Lucky Emblems.

This mod is most helpful if you’re trying to 100 percent the game and are not sure what else you’re missing. From tracking down that last Golden Hercules figure to all the Classic Kingdom Minigames, this mod is just the tool you need to find any missing items.

3 Expanded Boundaries

In Kingdom Hearts 3, your ability to explore Twilight Town compared to Kingdom Hearts 2 is more limited. However, with the Expanded Boundaries mod, you can wander around more of this iconic world. You can visit the Train Station and even climb to the top of the Clock Tower with this mod.

While the mod doesn’t include expanded boundaries for any other worlds, getting to walk around Twilight Town’s expanded world is wonderful. It provides the perfect amount of nostalgia for Kingdom Hearts 2.

2 Uno Cards

Luxord is one of the best members of the Organization 13, famous for his signature card-based battles. While there are a lot of options to switch up Luxord’s iconic cards, there’s something particularly hilarious about picturing him with Uno cards. This is what makes the Uno Card mod so delightful.

This mod is a minor cosmetic change, just mapping the Uno card design over Luxord’s typical design. It not only updates the design on the back of the cards, but also adds actual cards from the game, like the dreaded Draw 4, Skip Turn, and Reverse cards.

1 Light vs. Darkness Edition

In the waiting period for Kingdom Hearts 4, longing for a new Kingdom Hearts experience is only natural. Thanks to a team of active and dedicated modders, you can find a whole new challenge and adventure through an extensive Kingdom Hearts 3 mod: Light vs. Darkness Edition.

This mod provides extra challenge through a campaign playing through the worlds, now infected by Darkness. It also has an increased difficulty mode. It’s so intense that the creators even wrote their own Strategy Guide for their mod.
