Roguelike enjoyers rejoice because Lost Castle 2 has officially been released into its 1.0 state. During your journey to the mysterious Black Castle, you will encounter all types of enemies that are trying to cut, bludgeon, burn, or generally make your life difficult.

Some of the toughest foes are the game's various bosses that serve as final roadblocks in each of the regions. One of these is the Mutated Priest, who can spawn in the Ruined Cemetery level. A tricky foe, here is how to defeat this boss and what you'll earn for your trouble.

How To Beat The Mutated Priest

Unlike a lot of the other boss fights in Lost Castle 2, the Mutated Priest pretty much stays in one place for the entire duration of the fight. This is due to the sheer size of it, as the boss takes up the entire right side of the arena. While this makes the boss much easier to hit, he also drastically reduces your ability to run away and will force you to time dodges correctly.

When the battle starts, the Mutated Priest will slam his fist into the ground and summon a small group of undead villagers. These minions have fairly low health, but will rely on sheer numbers to overwhelm you. Given your already reduced space for moving around, I suggest focusing on killing them first before turning your attention to the Mutated Priest.

He will also drop explosive barrels with the zombies; make sure to grab and throw them at the boss for some extra damage!

As for the Mutated Priest, his attacks almost entirely consist of AoE (area-of-effect) and projectile-based moves. The first is a fist slam where he strikes the ground in a large radius. Just look for the red circle and roll away to avoid it, before rolling to where his hand struck to get some free hits in. He will also launch a damaging rain, which will hit in three marked spots, which, once again, can be avoided by moving out of the circle's radius.

This boss will occasionally spew a poison miasma in front of him, which is indicated by a giant red circle right below his mouth. Get away as quickly as possible if you see this, as this attack can do quite a bit of damage if you end up standing in it. Perhaps his most dangerous early move has the Mutated Priest slam his hand into the ground, launching a barrage of projectiles that block the left side of the screen.

The only safe place is in the middle of the arena, as you can avoid both the boss's slam and the projectiles he releases at the same time. This will also spawn two undead wizards, which you will always want to prioritize, since they can constantly summon new reinforcements. There's also a chance that the boss can summon a brute zombie, which is significantly tankier. If this happens, go on the defensive and divert all your attention to killing this foe, as his attacks cover a large range and deal quite a bit of damage.

When it comes to damaging the boss, any lingering effect like poison works wonders here due to his size. The Boomerang hunter's tool is also good since it will do quite a bit of damage when thrown out at him. You'll want to focus on attacking the boss whenever he is either screaming or right after he slams his fist. These are the best moments, as he is completely vulnerable, and you'll have a few free seconds to strike before launching another attack.

Once the boss reaches below 50 percent health, he will launch a screen-wide attack that sees projectiles rain down in vertical lines across the arena. The trick to avoiding this is to wait for the first line of projectiles to hit before immediately running to this spot to avoid the rest of the fireballs.

The Mutated Priest will become more aggressive, leaning more heavily on attacks that cover a wide radius, such as the one that summons the undead wizards. Because of this, you will want to focus on damaging the boss whenever possible. The longer this fight lasts, the easier it is for him to overwhelm you with ranged attacks and summoned minions.

Focus on hitting his hands or body between his moves, before quickly rolling back to the left side of the arena. Ranged weapons work best against this boss, but if you are using a sword or hammer, just make sure to be diligent about attacking whenever there isn't a big AoE attack right in front of the Mutated Priest.

Upon his death, you'll unlock his armor set, weapon, a piece of Black Iron Ore, and the Humanoid Sarcoma for the alchemist.
