Having Trouble Killin The Treasure Anglerfish Boss In Lost Castle 2? Here's How To Beat It
Lost Castle 2 is a beat'em up roguelike that puts you in the boots of a treasure hunter sent out to defeat a fearsome demon. Throughout this journey, you will help the locals, complete quests, unlock a ton of treasure, and fight all types of bosses.
One of these bosses is the Treasure Anglerfish, which is tied to the Saltpeter Desert region. Despite its size, this fish is remarkably nimble and can prove difficult for specific builds. Here's how to beat this boss and whether his alchemy amulet is worth the trouble.
How To Beat The Treasure Anglerfish
Unlike a lot of the other bosses, the Treasure Anglerfish's move set isn't terribly complicated, as it's mainly just trying to take a bite out of you for the vast majority of the fight. While this means you won't be dodging a ton of projectiles like in the Behemoth fight, it doesn't mean that this boss is a pushover.
In fact, the Treasure Anglerfish can be pretty tricky, as it can cover a large amount of the arena quickly, allowing it to close the gap when it attacks you. This can make dodging difficult, as you'll largely be reliant on your dodge roll or jump to get away from this boss rather than just running. Understanding the attacks of the Treasure Anglerfish and when to dodge is the key to success for this fight, as the large hitbox makes it incredibly easy to consistently deal damage to.
The main part of the Treasure Anglerfish you want to watch during the fight is its mouth. There's a slight delay from when it lurches forward to bite you, then when it actually snaps its jaws shut. You want to dodge just as the mouth starts to close, ideally by rolling either above or below the fish. Don't let your guard down if you do dodge it, as the Treasure Anglerfish often launches a second bite within a second or so after the first one!
This boss also has a dash attack that sees it swim rapidly across the sand towards you in an attempt to bite. Once again, this is all about keeping an eye on the Treasure Anglerfish's mouth and dodging right as it starts to close its jaws. If you can get behind the fish, this is the ideal location since it cannot turn on a dime, which makes it easy to damage while the Treasure Anglerfish is trying to bite you.
You'll largely be damaging the boss either during or right after its attacks. Staying behind it is key, as this will provide you with relative safety, while allowing you to consistently whack away at the fish. If you're using a ranged weapon like a musket, fire your volleys between bites when it's stationary before running away when the boss starts chasing after you.
The scariest attack involves the Treasure Anglerfish diving into the ground and then moving towards your position. It will reduce its size down to just its fin while under the sand and will relentlessly pursue you until it gets close. Once it does, the surrounding ground will shake, and the fish will emerge and quickly try to take a chunk out of you.
Due to the sheer speed it comes out of the sand, the best way to not take damage is to get as much distance as possible once the groundstarts shaking and the Treasure Anglerfish stops moving underground. This signals it's about to come out of the sand and cannot continue chasing you.
It will repeat diving underground after this attack, only now it will jump into the air when it emerges. This is much easier to avoid, since you need to just not be in the big, scary red circle before the boss lands. Similar to before, it will dive back into the sand and launch one more bite attack, with the added catch that it snaps its jaws twice at you.
There's a brief moment where it rests after this third attack that you'll want to take advantage of since the Treasure Anglerfish won't move or attack while it's recovering. The boss will then resume its normal attack pattern of chasing you around the arena to bite you. There are no additional gimmicks or mechanics, so focus on just dodging when it's about to bite, and you should be fine.
Once the boss is dead, you'll earn a chunk of Black Iron Ore, some loot for your run, the Anglerfish Liver, and you'll unlock the boss's unique armor and weapons for future attempts.
