Summary

  • Yesterday, the voice behind Yosuke in Persona 4, Yuri Lowenthal, suggested a remake is incoming but not bringing back the original cast.
  • A Persona 4 remake already seemed likely, but it's seemingly inevitable now, as another voice actor has confirmed they're not returning.
  • It looks like an announcement of some kind might be on the way soon with all the mentions of a remake lately.

It looks like the floodgates have well and truly opened for a remake of Persona 4, as yet another voice actor from the original game has confirmed they weren't asked to return.

Ever since the massive success of Persona 3's remake last year, Persona 3 Reload, it's seemed inevitable that Atlus and Sega would bring back even more games from the series' past. The next obvious candidate to get the remake treatment is Persona 4, and there's been a fair bit of evidence to suggest that it's in the works.

Beyond seeming incredibly obvious anyway, the first murmurs of a Persona 4 remake came after the game's singer, Shihoko Hirata, shared images of her in a recording booth used for Persona games. That was already some solid evidence, but then Yuri Lowenthal, who played Yosuke in the original game, seemed to outright confirm the rumours yesterday.

Persona 4's Unannounced Remake Won't Be Bringing Back Chie's Original Voice Actor

"I Have Not Been Asked To Reprise My Role..."

Out of nowhere, Lowenthal revealed on Bluesky yesterday that he won't be returning to voice Yosuke in the still-unannounced remake, despite having "begged" to play the character again. It seems that Yowenthal isn't alone in not being asked to come back for the remake, as Chie's original voice actor, Erin Fitzgerald, has now confirmed that she won't be returning either.

As pointed out by Twitter user Genki_JPN, Chie's voice actor in the original release of Persona 4, Eric Fitzgerald, also took to Bluesky to address the rumours of a Persona 4 remake. Fitzgerald said that she hadn't "been asked to reprise my role as Chie Satonaka in the Persona 4 remake", before saying that she was blessed to have spent so much time with the character already.

For those asking, I have not been asked to reprise my role as Chie Satonaka in the Persona 4 remake. RIP. I am blessed to have recorded as many Persona 4 games as I did playing her. - Erin Fitzgerald

It's not clear why so many Persona 4 actors are suddenly speaking out about the remake's existence (which is still not officially confirmed but now seems certain), but it does suggest that a whole new cast is being put together for the game. With so many mentions of it lately, it seems that an announcement isn't far off.
