Persona 4 Revival Just Got Rated, But Its Age Rating Is Lower Than Persona 4 Golden
It's looking increasingly likely that news around Persona 4 Revival is on the horizon. After months of silencesince its reveal last year, ESRB age ratings for the game have surfaced on the Xbox Store, giving it a Mature 17+ rating.
But while its 17+ rating follows the trend set by Persona 4 Golden in the West, in Japan, its age rating has dropped, sparking concerns that the game's themes have been toned down slightly.
Persona 4 Revival's Japanese Age Rating Has Dropped Compared To Persona 4 Golden's
In the US, Persona 4 Revival has received a Mature 17+ rating. This is due to the inclusion of "Mild Blood, Violence, Sexual Themes, Partial Nudity, Strong Language, Alcohol Reference." In Japan, however, the game has received a CERO B rating, making it suitable for ages 12 and above.
The Japanese version of the game contains "romance, sexual content, violence, and crime," and its CERO B matches that of the original Persona 4 title. However, compared to Persona 4 Golden, it has fallen.
Golden had a CERO C rating in the country, as did both Persona 5 Royal and Persona 3 Reload, making those games suitable for players aged 15 and above.

However, the reversion to the CERO B rating for the Japanese version of Persona 4 Revival might suggest that this is purely a remaster of the base game rather than the Golden version.
Of course, this is just speculation, but it's hard to see how Revival could have seen a drop, given the previous ratings for Persona games, short of cutting content.

Persona 3 Reload notoriously cut some content from Persona 3 FES and Persona 3 Portable, including the female protagonist and Episode Aegis, the latter of which was made available as paid DLC. There's a chance that Atlus is pulling the same thing here with some of Golden's content.
