Double Dream Shard Research Event Overview
Hold onto your Ice-type Pokemon because this event is all about them. But the first and most important details are this. The event will span one week, between December 23 and December 30 and it will be exclusive to Greengrass Isle, making it so that Researchers of any rank can easily participate.
There is a heap of bonuses that will be active during this time period. One of which is that certain Pokemon have a higher chance of appearing while you sleep, not only the new Pokemon, but Ice-type Pokemon too.
Some of the bonuses take place for the entire duration of the event. Those are:
- The Main Skill, Dream Shard Magnet S, will be more effective.
- You can use the Candy Boost feature.
- Ice-type helper Pokemon bring extra ingredients.
- Ice-type helper Pokemon have a 1.5 multiplier to their Main Skill being triggered.
- The level of Ice-type helper Pokemon Main Skills will be boosted by one.
- Pokemon of all sleep types have a chance to appear.
On December 24, there are two bonuses that only apply to that day:
- Researchers will receive a Dream Gift.
- Researchers will gain twice the amount of Dream Shards they usually would from sleeping.
The Dream Gift is only available for a limited amount of time. In order to claim yours, you will see the gift appear next to Snorlax on both December 24 and 25.
And, yes, Christmas Day has its own bonus:
- Researchers will receive a different Dream Gift.
- Researchers will now gain three times the usual amount of Dream Shards.
- Researchers will gain 1,225 extra sleep points.
If you do not log in or are currently progressing through the tutorial, you will miss out on these daily Dream Gifts.
Then on December 29, researchers will once again gain three times the usual amount of Dream Shards after completing their sleep.
Next, not to confuse anyone, Researchers will gain twice the amount of Dream ShardsonDecember 23 and December 26 through December 28. All of this to say: use Ice-type Pokemon and get ready for a boatload of Dream Shards.
Candy Boost
During the course of the event, you will be able to use the helpful Candy Boost option. When you go to level a Pokemon up, you can decide if you’d like to do so normally or use the Candy Boost, which doubles the EXP they gain from the candies you use.
Be warned that this will consume five times the usual amount of Dream Shards. Making this event and feature go hand-in-hand.
If you decide you’d rather level up Pokemon normally, you can easily turn this feature off in the level-up screen in the upper right-hand corner.
Pokemon Details
As stated earlier on, the Alolan Vulpix and the Pawmi evolutionary lines are joining the roster. Their sleep styles are as follows:

Slumbering
- Vulpix (Alolan)
- Ninetales (Alolan)
While the holiday event is on, these Pokemon can all appear in Greengrass Isle. However, once the event is over, you will only find Pawmi there.
The areas they will appear in after December 30 are as follows:
Greengrass Isle
- Pawmi
Snowdrop Tundra

Event-Specific Pokemon Details
In addition to Pawmi and Alolan Vulpix, you can also find a holiday version of Pikachu, which has been featured in the previous Holiday event. But, debuting this year is a holiday version of Eevee, wearing a Santa hat.
Other Pokemon that have a higher chance of appearing (besides the new Pokemon) are:
- Delibird
- Spheal
- Sealeo
- Walrein
- Snover
- Abomasnow
- Glaceon
You will most likely see many more Pikachu and Eevee than all the other Ice-types as they have an even higher chance of appearing.
Another fun add-in is that there is an increased chance to find Shiny Pokemon. These increased odds apply to the entire event, with no specific date assigned.
