Whether you play the games casually or competitively, you have to consider which Pokemon belong on your team. What types of Pokemon can you hit for Super Effective damage? What kinds do you resist? And what types of moves can you avoid entirely?
RELATED: Pokemon: Best Dual Types
This list focuses on the latter, featuring Pokemon that could be great pivots to safely bring in teammates that know Super Effective moves. Here's every Pokemon in the series that has at least three immunities, ranked by how well they take synergize with these immunities. Get ready to see a lot of Ghost-types!
15 Azurill: Normal/Fairy + Sap Sipper
Immunities
Resistances
Weaknesses
Ghost, Grass, Dragon
Bug, Dark
Poison, Steel
Even though Azurill is just a baby, it is notable for being the only Pokemon that can have three immunities that isn't a Ghost-type. Azurill has a Normal and Fairy dual typing which gives it immunities to Dragon and Ghost-type moves. On top of that, it gets the Sap Sipper ability which turns Grass-type moves into an Attack boost. However, Azurill is incredibly weak and Sap Sipper isn't its best ability, so you're better off evolving it to Azumarill and using the awesome Huge Power ability instead.
14 Golett/Golurk, Sandygast/Palossand, & Galarian Yamask/Runerigus: Ghost/Ground
Immunities
Resistances
Weaknesses
Fighting, Normal, Electric
Rock, Bug, Poison
Ghost, Dark, Water, Grass, Ice
Probably the easiest way to build up that third immunity is to add a secondary type that also has an immunity. Ground is a great addition since it adds an immunity to one of the most common attacking types in the game: Electric. All three Ghost/Ground-types are perfect for this because they are bulky Pokemon meant to hit hard or annoy you, especially Golurk and Runerigus. The only downside is that it comes with weaknesses to two common attacking types: Water and Ice. Otherwise, all three Pokemon are great defensive choices.
13 Drifloon/Drifblim & Sensu Style Oricorio: Ghost/Flying
Immunities
Resistances
Weaknesses
Fighting, Normal, Ground
Poison, Grass, Bug
Ghost, Dark, Electric, Rock, Ice
RELATED: Pokemon: The Best Trick Room Setters
Another great secondary typing is Flying because it eliminates Ground-type moves, especially the ever-common Earthquake. Both Drifblim and Sensu Style Oricorio appreciate this since they are incredibly frail. However, this comes at the cost of being weak to three common attacking types: Rock, Ice, and the aforementioned Electric.
12 Duskull & Misdreavus/Mismagius: Ghost + Levitate
Immunities
Resistances
Weaknesses
Fighting, Normal, Ground
Poison, Bug
Ghost, Dark
One of the best abilities in Pokemon is Levitate because it flat-out makes your Pokemon immune to Ground-type attacks. It's all the benefits of being a Flying-type with none of the weaknesses! While this is useful for Duskull, it's fairly weak and loses the ability when it evolves into Dusclops. However, Mismagius takes full advantage of Levitate because it has a very low Defense and it is now immune to two of the most common physical attacking types in the game: Fighting and Ground.
11 Gastly/Haunter: Ghost/Poison + Levitate
Immunities
Resistances
Weaknesses
Fighting, Normal, Ground
Grass, Fairy, Poison, Bug
Ghost, Dark, Psychic
Gastly and Haunter are more than likely the first Ghost-type Pokemon players ever saw. And while the secondary Poison-typing made them weak to the Psychic-types they were meant to counter, it was made up for later with the ability Levitate. Levitate is especially useful with Gastly and Haunter since it eliminates one of Poison's two weaknesses and adds two additional resistances. It's just a shame that Gengar no longer gets Levitate since that made it much easier to switch in and sweep.
10 Origin Form Giratina: Ghost/Dragon + Levitate
Immunities
Resistances
Weaknesses
Fighting, Normal, Ground
Poison, Bug, Fire, Water, Grass, Electric
Ghost, Dark, Ice, Fairy, Dragon
It seems unfair to give a Legendary Pokemon three immunities. They're already incredibly powerful, why make it harder to take them down? Yet here we are with one of the scariest legendaries of all time: Giratina. Giratina is the perfect combination of strength and bulk with its lowest stat being its base 90 Speed. Everything else is at 100 or above. On top of this, it has six resistances to some fairly common attacking types. The good news is it also has five weaknesses, so it's not impossible to defeat.
9 Rotom: Ghost/Electric + Levitate
Immunities
Resistances
Weaknesses
Fighting, Normal, Ground
Flying, Poison, Bug, Steel, Electric
Ghost, Dark
Rotom is one of the more interesting Pokemon to use since it can be changed into five different forms. However, if you choose to keep it as is, you'll be getting a Pokemon with an awesome unique typing. Levitate eliminates Electric-type's only weakness meaning that Rotom can only be hit with Super Effective damage by two types. It also provides three additional resistances. The main downside is that almost every other form of Rotom has better stats and is more useful overall. Except for Fan Rotom. That Pokemon is useless.
8 Frillish/Jellicent: Ghost/Water + Water Absorb
Immunities
Resistances
Weaknesses
Fighting, Normal, Water
Poison, Bug, Fire, Steel, Ice
Ghost, Dark, Grass, Electric
RELATED: Pokemon: Every Main Ghost-Type Trainer, Ranked
As was mentioned earlier, having a bulky Pokemon with three immunities is especially helpful since that means it can just stick around longer. Jellicent is the perfect example of that, having decent defenses and great HP. To help that HP stat out even more, Jellicent's Water Absorb ability takes Water-type attacks and turns the damage into more HP. This just gives Jellicent more time to spread burns around. The only downside is that Water Absorb removes a resisted attacking type instead of a Super Effective or neutral kind.
7 Litwick/Lampent/Chandelure & Ceruledge: Ghost/Fire + Flash Fire
Immunities
Resistances
Weaknesses
Fighting, Normal, Fire
Poison, Steel, Grass, Ice, Fairy, Bug
Ghost, Dark, Ground, Rock, Water
Chandelure and Ceruledge are both Pokemon with decent Speed, average bulk, and high attacking stats. But what really connects them is the fact that they are both Ghost/Fire-types with the ability Flash Fire. This ability absorbs Fire-type attacks and turns them into improved damage for your own Fire-type attacks. While this is useful for boosting your Pokemon's literal firepower, it does mean that Chandelure and Ceruledge lose a resistance instead of a weakness or neutral attacking type. However, six resistances are still great.
6 Alolan Marowak: Ghost/Fire + Lightning Rod
Immunities
Resistances
Weaknesses
Fighting, Normal, Electric
Poison, Steel, Grass, Ice, Fairy, Bug, Fire
Ghost, Dark, Ground, Rock, Water
Alolan Marowak is a Fire/Ghost-type just like Chandelure and Ceruledge. However, instead of having Flash Fire to make it immune to Fire-type attacks, Marowak has Lightning Rod. This is much better because not only does Marowak get to keep its Fire resistance, but it's now immune from neutral Electric-type attacks. While it's a shame that Alolan Marowak probably won't use the Special Attack boost that comes with it, it now has seven total resistances and is the bane of Electric-types everywhere.
