10 X Speed

Little To No Retreat Cost

With Pokemon TCG Pocket having a limited number of cards available compared to the full Pokemon TCG, players need to get creative if they want to do certain things. One of these is being able to Retreat your Pokemon.

X Speed is the next best thing since Switch or Escape Rope. It reduces the cost of Retreating by one Energy. While this doesn’t sound like much, the Pokemon in this game don’t have much Retreat Cost to begin with, so reducing it by one is just as good as being able to swap out for free.

9 Moltres ex

Use The Energy Zone

One of the newest gameplay additions to Pokemon TCG Pocket is the Energy Zone. Rather than drawing into Energy from your main deck, all the energy that you need is in a special zone. So, naturally, Energy Acceleration cards work a bit differently.

Moltres ex lets you flip three coins and attach one Fire Energy for each heads to your Benched Pokemon. Since the Energy Zone alternates between the two Energy types in your deck, this is a surprisingly good way to tap into Fire specifically.

Pikachu ex is a lightning-fast Electric-type that can start zapping your opponent in no time. This is a Basic Pokemon with a Move that costs only two Energy. Circle Circuit does 30 damage for each of your Benched Electric Pokemon.

7 Charizard ex

Devastating But Difficult To Set Up

If you manage to Evolve Charmander all the way and set up a decent Energy Acceleration, then Charizard ex can pull off some devastating Moves. With 180 HP, it won’t be knocked out any time soon. Which is good since you’ll need time to power up.

Slash costs three Energy to deal 60 damage. Meanwhile, Crimson Storm does 200 damage for four Energy. Unlike other powerful cards, discarding the two Fire Energy after using this Move means you need to attack at least one more next turn if you want to use Slash.

6 Sabrina

Get Rid Of An Obstacle

Sabrina lets you switch out your opponent’s Active Pokemon in exchange for one of their Benched ones. While you do not get to choose which Pokemon you’ll be facing next, this can be an easy way to get a free point.

With the game revolving around reaching three points, being able to knock out just one Pokemon can be enough to tilt the scales in your favor. This is especially useful when you are just one point away from victory and need that easy knockout.

Add A Basic Pokemon To Your Hand

Poke Ball works a bit differently than it does in the Pokemon TCG. It doesn’t require you to flip coins or discard cards to search for a Basic Pokemon. Instead, just playing it gets you a random one from your deck.

With Pokemon Pocket decks consisting of only 20 cards and three Bench spaces, getting what you need isn’t as difficult. So being able to pull a random Basic from your deck with Poke Ball gives you more odds of actually getting what you need.

4 Professor Oak

When your deck already consists of only 20 cards, the ability to draw two is beyond valuable. In the Pokemon TCG, a professor card would most likely let you discard your hand to draw seven. Pokemon TCG Pocket keeps it balanced by making it draw two.

Regardless, this is a card that every deck will want if they want to improve their consistency. With the game being quick enough as it is being able to go through your deck even faster is an essential strategy towards victory.

3 Pidgeot EX

A Fantastic Bench Ability

If you thought Sabrina was good, you can achieve the exact same effect by getting your Pidgey all the way to Pidgeot. Unlike Sabrina, you can use this effect once per turn using Pidgeot’s Drive Off Ability.

Pidgeot is also able to attack giving it extra usability. Wing Attack costs two Colorless Energy and does a solid 70 damage. This is great for picking off the weak and helpless Unevolved Pokemon that get dragged out. It can also hold off stronger Pokemon if you can strike multiple times.

2 Mewtwo EX

Two Powerful Moves

Mewtwo ex has a decent HP statline at 150. This means it will last long enough to eventually go on the Active Spot and wreak havoc on your opponent. Psychic Sphere does 50 damage and only costs two Energy.

Mew is one of the most popular Pokemon in the TCG with incredible cards from different generations.

Meanwhile, Psydrive costs four Energy but can do a whopping 150 damage. This can one-hit knockout almost anything. The only downside is that you need to discard two Psychic Energy when using this Move. Luckily, Psychic Speak can keep you landing hits while you attach Energy back onto Mewtwo.

1 Starmie ex

Free Retreat

Starmie has a very similar attack to Pikachu with the added consistency that it doesn’t need Benched Pokemon to reach max power. For two Water Energy, Hydrosplash does 90 damage. However, to access this, you first need to evolve Staryu. Luckily, this isn’t that difficult.

Another amazing trait this card has is that it can Retreat for free. So, if it ever comes close to being taken down, you can prevent your opponent from getting their two points by getting them out of harm’s way.
