But, as with any TCG, as new cards are released, old ones become less relevant, and that's certainly the case with TCG Pocket, as the game has already made at least four cards worthless in battles.

Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket's New Meta Is Ruthless

While cards like Mew ex, Tauros, and Aerodactyl ex, as well as decks featuring Celebi ex and Serperior, have rightly taken the spotlight, other cards have been replaced with versions better than their former selves.

The first example of this sees the infamous Ditto card replaced by Mew ex. Previously, Ditto could copy any Pokemon's moves, provided it had the correct energy attached to it. Mew ex is a significant upgrade on this, as for three energy of any type, its Genome Hacking move can also copy any opposition attack.

It takes away the reliance on having the same energy as your opponent, streamlining the card's viability. Mew ex also has significantly more HP than Ditto, with 130 versus 70, effectively rendering the latter obsolete.

The next example sees Rapidash replace itself. The Genetic Apex version of the Pokemon hits for 40 damage off one energy, whereas Mythical Island's has the opportunity, depending on a coin flip, to hit for 100. There's an element of RNG, and it takes a little longer to set up, but overall, this new version trumps the old one.

Next up, we have Genetic Apex's Electrode versus Mythical Island's Galvantula. Both Pokemon have 80 HP, and both hit for 70 damage from two Electric energies, but Galvantula's Electroweb move prevents the defending Pokemon from retreating, adding a little extra versatility. Joltik, Galvantula's Basic form, is also probably better than Voltorb. It has 20 less HP but deals 10 more damage, meaning it can knock Pokemon like Staryu out in one hit.

The final card being sent to the Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket graveyard is Seadra. It was an interesting card that could hit any opposition Pokemon for 50 damage, providing it had three water energies attached. However, Mythical Island's new Lumineon card does the same thing, only for one less energy. It also has ten more HP to boot.

It's interesting to see how much the TCG has evolved with just a handful of new cards, and it certainly shows that it's never safe to get comfortable with one deck.
