Misty Decks Are Broken In Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket
Players who run Misty decks in Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket evidently love a bit of risk. The supporter allows you to flip coins until you hit tails, attaching a Water energy for every head flipped. It's a card that, should luck be on your side, will almost certainly turn the tides of battle, and it even has the ability to overcome the curse that is going first.
With much discussion around Misty decks, one Reddit user, 3Questionmarks__, figured out to just what extent the card is broken, and they found it can result in a win rate of over 90 percent.
3Quetionmarks analyzed 281 Pokemon TCG Pocket battles, in which they played Misty in 211 of them. As a general rule, they found that any match in which a Misty flipped at least a single head resulted in an 83 percent win rate. This rose all the way to 91 percent if lady luck shone on their side, blessing them with three or more heads.
Any match in which a Misty flipped at least a single head resulted in an 83 percent win rate.
Flipping a head with the first Misty card played is, of course, the most optimum route to victory, with 3Questionmarks finding an 80 percent, 88 percent, and 94 percent win rate for one, two, or three heads flipped, respectively. They still won 57 percent of their matches when their first Misty flip landed on tails, but the second landed on heads. Playing no Misty cards resulted in a roughly 56 percent win rate.
It leaves the virtual TCG in a tricky spot. While counters for Mewtwo ex and Pikachu ex decks have become fairly commonplace, it's a lot harder to counter Misty decks simply because of the chance element involved. With the physical Pokemon TCG unable to alter cards after release, it'll be interesting to see if the developers are willing to change the rules as the game progresses.
