Summary

  • Could 2024s Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown be getting a sequel?
  • That's what a new post from the official Prince of Persia account seems to hint at.
  • That said, it's important to note that the team behind The Lost Crown was disbanded and shifted to other projects.
  • Thursday's social media post could be in reference to future projects, including The Sands of Time remake.

In a post shared Thursday celebrating a new player milestone for last year's Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, the game's publisher, Ubisoft, has seemingly teased a potential sequel.

The post, which commemorates over 2,000,000 players, notes the following: "You’ve revived the legend. The Prince is back, and believe us — he's just warming up."

Thursday's post is particularly noteworthy as it was reported late last year that the company had turned down a sequel, as well as expansion pitches from its Montpellier team, before ultimately disbanding the team altogether, a report that the company later confirmed.

"Poor Sales" Were To Blame For Why The Lost Crown Was Abandoned

At the time, it was reported that the game's "poor sales" were to blame for the lack of future entries, with Ubisoft shifting personnel to projects it reportedly felt had a higher sales potential.

During its launch window, Insider Gaming reported that the game had netted roughly $15 million in revenue due to sales of around 300,000. By the end of its first year, it crossed 1.3 million in sales, per Eurogamer. The game has only grown in player base in the year-plus since its release.

There Are Two Prince Of Persia Games In The Works

It's important to note that Thursday's post came from the all-around Prince of Persia account, meaning the entries being hinted at don't necessarily have to relate to The Lost Crown.

As it stands, The Rogue Prince of Persia is still in its Early Access phase, representing another entry in the larger Prince of Persia franchise. Not only that, but in June, the long-in-development Sands of Time remake was also re-revealed with a targeted 2026 release.

Of course, those two, plus a sequel to The Lost Crown would make for the ultimate timeline. However, it seems unlikely what is being teased has to do with last year's game. Never say never, though.
