As you progress in the main story of Rusty Rabbit, you'll quickly unlock the skills section in the main menu where you can invest your skill points to get various boosts inside and outside Smokestack Mountain. These skills are divided into six sections based on the part they buff.

Each skill also has branches going outside where you can get a higher boost as you progress through the dungeons. However, a few of these skills stand out as being a lot more helpful than others, and it's important to focus on these to have smoother gameplay.

7 Shock Absorption

You can find the shock absorption skill on the top-right side of the tree with the icon of a rabbit and a number on its bottom right side. One of the main problems you'll face while exploring different areas is constant fall damage since it's easy to fall from a height even if you don't plan for it.

The shock absorption upgrades reduce the duration of your stun after taking fall damage. If you don't have this ability upgraded, you'll have to sit at a certain place for quite a long time whenever you take fall damage, wasting a bunch of time that you could save by upgrading it.

6 Thruster Upgrade

Another reason to at least get the first upgrade in the shock absorption ability mentioned above is that it unlocks the thruster upgrade skill. There are two thruster upgrades that you can find just above the former on the top-right side of the skill tree, but you won't need them in the early game.

As you progress, you'll unlock the thruster ability on Junkster, which is arguably one of the best abilities to have in the game. With this upgrade, you can use these thrusters for a much longer time, allowing you to reach heights that you couldn't before.

While you'll only need these upgrades in the late game, it's recommended to save some skill points for them.

5 Recycle

On the bottom-right part of the skill tree, you'll find a long branch of recycle upgrades beside the screwdiver tool icon in the middle. Weapon crafting is an important part of Rusty Rabbit, but it also has some luck-based systems where you can role a certain weapon skill each time you craft it.

Each weapon requires a specific skill to be useful, and you'll have to constantly dismantle and craft it until you get that. This process makes the recycle skill quite important since it lets you get a lot more resources when you dismantle a weapon, with the last upgrade giving you all the possible resources back.

4 Slot Expansion

While you try to dig deeper into Smokestack Mountain, you'll continuously find yourself coming back to the surface and looking at various shops. One of these shops belongs to Jed, and they give you a bunch of additional parts for Junkster. These parts can improve your EN and make you more resistant to various status effects.

The status effects in the game last for quite a long time by default, and it's important to lower them. One of the ways to do that is by unlocking the slot expansion upgrades, which gives you more slots for additional parts, allowing you to place more chips there.

3 Big Seller

You'll find the smart shopper and big seller upgrades in the third row on the bottom left side of the skill tree. The former reduces the price of items in shops, while the latter increases how much you sell your items for. This is one of the most important upgrades to get in the early game.

Gold Tags are the main items that'll make you rich in Rusty Rabbit, and the price for selling these goes up significantly with the big seller upgrade. It's highly recommended to save all the items you want to sell until you get this upgrade, as it'd be a waste to sell them at a lower price.

2 EN Upgrade

One of the most basic and yet the most valuable upgrades can be found in the first branch of the top part of the skill tree called EN upgrade. You have up to five levels of these upgrades, and they slowly unlock as you defeat various bosses in different parts of the map.

As the name suggests, EN upgrade increases Junkster's maximum health while you're roaming around and trying to platform. The game can get quite overwhelming with constant status application and attacks, especially during boss fights, and this upgrade will help a lot there.

For some boss fights, it's nearly impossible to avoid taking damage completely, and low EN will heavily increase your chances of defeat here.

1 Know Your Surroundings

Finally, the most important upgrade you can get in Rusty Rabbit is know your surroundings on the bottom left side of the tree. The first one of these upgrades is also required for the big seller upgrade mentioned above, but it's better to unlock them both first since they can provide crucial information.

The first upgrade marks different tiles on the map with different colors, making it easier for you to see where the containers you're missing are. The second one adds a special icon at the exact location of every hidden path, letting you easily finish exploring the maps.
