Sometimes, playing a happy-go-lucky indie RPG can make your day and offer a great experience. Rainbow Billy: The Curse of the Leviathan brings an exciting mix of 2.5D platforming alongside puzzles and RPG combat to give you a nice blend of genres. The cartoony graphics make it visually appealing, but you may face challenges as you play the game.

However, you can learn how the game works and get through the beginning parts as you remember some essential tips. You'll be able to make your way through the adventure, help Rainbow Billy succeed, and do what you can to bring color back to the world.

Pay Attention To All Dialogue

Dialogue remains one of the most important parts of Rainbow Billy. As you go into towns and interact with NPCs, you must listen to them if you want to get information. They'll point you in the right direction while providing advice, so always look for a chance to talk with people and see what they mention.

Talking matters even more in combat. Before you choose to talk, you should listen to what the enemy says. They'll express a negative emotion, showing their personality.

From there, you can look at the three options and choose the best response out of the bunch. Doing so will reveal more information about what friends you should use, so you'll recruit the character.

Fight with every enemy you come across and turn them into friends. The more you have, the easier you'll make combat.

Look Ahead Before You Travel

As you travel the seas, you'll need to work with your Friend-Ship to reach those distances. However, you'll notice gray islands in the distance, along with a gray ocean.

The Circles near islands you've returned to color remain safe areas, but as soon as you go into the blue ocean, the Leviathan's hands will reach for you. That means you must reach your destination quickly, or you'll respawn at a previous island. Luckily, you don't lose anything when this happens.

If you want a general idea of which islands you can reach, look at the blue ocean compared to the gray area. If the ocean near the island is blue, that means you can get to it.

Ensure you use the Rainbow Boost the whole time, so you'll have enough time to get to your location. You should also look around the area to see if there are any islands to the side where you'll find more items and discoveries.

Always aim for the dock when you travel to a new location. You can only get to the island through the dock, so if you aim for another region, you may end up back at the previous island if you don't go to the right area.

Always Go Fishing And Prioritize Gifts

Fishing remains a crucial part of the game. When you collect fish gummies, you can give them to your friends to level them up and give you access to more attack types. As soon as fishing starts, you'll see black spikes, colored fish, and sometimes boxes with gifts in them. Always go for the gifts since they add a large boost to your friends' experience bars.

Even if none of your friends want the gift you find, you'll have it available once you find another friend. From ice cream to friendship bracelets, you'll find various items throughout the game, so collect them and save them until someone asks for one. Even if you only come across fish, you can still use them to improve your friends.

Level Up Your Friends Equally

As you collect more friends, you can level them up through items and gummies. While you may want to focus all your efforts on one ally, ensure you spread out the experience and give the best options to each person.

On top of giving them the gifts they want, you should pay attention to their attack colors.

Giro has a red attack, so you'll want to give him red gummies to increase his experience gain. As you get more friends who cover different aspects of combat, you'll want to keep them all strong and aim for level three.

At level three, they gain access to their passive abilities along with three attack types, letting you cover more options during combat.

If you ever max out characters and have excess gifts or gummies, you can use them on other friends. Keep track of them and create a storage when you first start the game, but feel free to use them as much as possible once you have tons of allies.

Watch Your Command Menu

As you travel the world, you'll have the command menu in the top-right corner. The menu shows you how to jump, interact, punch, and roll.

While you use jumping and rolling to help you navigate the world, you can't always interact with objects or punch them. Instead, you'll need to keep an eye on the menu to see when you can use them.

As you go to the different islands, you'll come across some bushes you can punch and other objects. If you can interact with them, the button will light up, letting you know to use the ability. The same applies to your interaction button, so always keep an eye on them and go up to different objects.

Pay attention to items made of color. The gray ones usually don't let you interact with them, so look for colored items since they'll stand out among the islands.

Search Every Island

Going off the previous point, you'll want to scour every island you see. Go to them, walk around, and see everything available. Doing so will not only help you find friends, but you can get gifts, find fishing spots, and even collect thoughts.

Thoughts play a major role in making your character stronger. For example, if you collect enough thoughts and return to the boat, you can send out your fishing rod for more time and utilize other bonuses. Even if an island doesn't end up having a friend, you'll find something of worth.

You may come across things you can't utilize immediately, such as balloons, so you should remember them. That way, you know to return to that island later on once you get the correct ability. Since the game includes a fast travel option, you can easily return to a previous area.

Watch The Switches

Most areas will have switches you can use. Activating them causes an object in the area to act a certain way. However, you can usually reactivate them to revert the effect. For example, a switch may cause a flower to rise, so you'll have to stand on the flower, hit the switch, and use it to reach a higher area.

However, you can run into situations where these lifts will bring up some flowers while lowering others. That usually means you'll have to find something else in the area to help you reach different parts of the island, so experiment with these switches and watch how they interact with the environment.

Some of them impact multiple places, so do your best to see how you can take advantage of them during your adventures.

As you play through Rainbow Billy, you'll naturally get frustrated as you learn the combat system and navigate the world. Luckily, you have some tips to give you advice, help you through the game, and improve. As long as you keep at it and do what you can to apply what you learn, you'll enjoy the game and make the most out of your experience.
