Resident Evil fans think that Capcom might have just teased Resident Evil 9 for the first time in the weirdest way possible by seemingly including a nod to it in a Resi 4 Remake sales celebration video.
Even though Capcom hasn't officially confirmed that any new Resident Evil games are in development since the release of Resident Evil 4's remake in 2023, it's one of the industry's worst-kept secrets that Resident Evil 9 is currently being worked on. Countless rumours and leaks about the upcoming game, which is rumoured to be open-world, have been shared in recent years.

Posts By Peter Hunt SzpytekEven with so much alleged information about Resident Evil 9 being shared recently, we've still not heard anything official from Capcom about the series' future or even when we can expect to see a new game announced. With it being nearly two years since the launch of Resident Evil 4's remake, you'd think that a reveal is on the way, and a video from Capcom itself might be hinting at that exact possibility.
Did Capcom Just Tease Resident Evil 9 For The First Time?
It Might Be A Reach, But It's All We Have
Earlier today, Capcom shared a video that confirmed a big sales milestone for Resident Evil 4's remake, which has now officially sold over 10 million copies since it launched. The celebration video is mostly tongue-in-cheek and a nice look back at the remake, but fans have noticed that it seems to end with a big tease.
As pointed out by Resident Evil insider and Twitter user AestheticGamer1, the Resident Evil 4 remake video ends with Leon standing around in the first chapter's village. As he lifts his hand up to celebrate, the camera pans back and shows a crossed sign that wasn't in the original game at all. The sign has messages in various languages thanking fans for playing, but it's the shape that's interesting.
If you look at the sign closely, you can see that it's shaped like "IX", which is the Roman numeral for nine. Considering Resident Evil 9 is the next game in the series and the cross has been edited for the trailer, fans are taking it as a not-so-subtle tease for Resi 9, marking the first time that Capcom has referenced the game's existence.
There are multiple rumours about Resident Evil games that are in development, but the leading theory is that Resi 9 is the one we'll see released next, so it makes sense to tease here.
Of course, it could just be a reach from hungry fans who just want any kind of hint towards the series' future, but you can't deny that the cross looks like IX. We'll hopefully find out for sure soon, but it's certainly looking like a cheeky tease.
