Summary
- Reynatis draws inspiration from The World Ends With You with a focus on contemporary society.
- Unique Wizart abilities like Rabbit Swing and Raven's Finisher enhance gameplay.
- Features like Burst Time Plus and Combo Effect Up add depth to combat and endgame challenges.
Reynatis wears its inspirations very openly, treating the game itself almost like a love letter to those influences. While it draws from many different fonts, the series that seems to have had the most influence on the game would be The World Ends With You as this version of Shibuya is all about contemporary society and the artistic ways in which that is expressed.
RelatedReynatis Review - Sometimes It Is Better To Dream Of What Could Have Been
In a year filled with strong RPG releases, Reynatis stands out in the worst way possible.
Posts 1 By James KennedyIn Reynatis' case, that is shown through the Wizart spread across the city. This graffiti is magically imbued, giving the wizards who gaze upon it the power within. In gameplay, this manifests as new skills and abilities. Some are exclusive to certain characters, though some of the most powerful are open to everyone. Here's the best that you can find.
10 Rabbit Swing
Moa is basically the better version of Dogo within the game. Following the same slow-but-strong attacks and capable of breaking armor, Moa moves much faster and has Wizart abilities that are much more exciting than those offered to Dogo.
One such ability is Rabbit Swing. Like all of her Rabbit related abilities, it centers around the use of her hammer, with her swinging it around herself to assault enemies. It can be extended to last as long as she has MP remaining as well, and has a very high chance of locking enemies into the attack.
9 Raven's Finisher
Sari is the supposed deuteragonist of the game, though she is left to the wayside in favour of Marin after a certain point in the story, essentially becoming a side character. She plays a similar role to Marin in combat as well, fast strikes and high maneuverability, though with less actual actions at her disposal.
Related8 Games Where You Play As The Police
Police in video games are usually there to spoil your fun. However, in these titles, you actually play as them.
Posts By Ben JesseyOne of her most fun Wizart abilities that you can acquire is Raven's Finisher. While it takes a while to pull off, it pauses the combo meter during its executions before slowing time to a crawl to unleash a flurry of blows against her targeted opponent. It's absurdly strong, though it's visually pretty fun.
8 Hound's Slash
Marin, despite being advertised as one of a pair of protagonists, is actually just the true sole protagonist if the story, though his motivations never really progress past what was established early on. He wishes to be the strongest wizard in the world. True to his word, he is actually the best character to play as in Reynatis.
Of Marin's many abilities, more than any other character acquires, Hound's Slash is one of the best. It has Marin execute a whirlwind of slashes against any enemies in front of him before ending with an upward slash. It's great for keeping up the combo meter while you can also pull it off quite quickly for good damage too.
7 Anole Reinforcement
Ukai plays the role of the ranged character in this game in a similar capacity to how a mage would in a more classic fantasy RPG. This means he can't take more than a few hits, but he is also immensely powerful with the right distance.

If you're down, these characters are the best of the best at their job; bringing you back and healing your wounds is second nature.
Posts 1 By Rena DarlingWhile many of Ukai's Wizart abilities are somewhat hit-or-miss, Anole Reinforcement is a killer. Rather than a singular attack move, it empowers Ukai's regular attacks instead. He fires more bullets, they ricochet between enemies more, and deal a bunch more damage, too. It's one of the best Wizart abilities in general.
6 Mr Mew
Reynatis has so clearly been deeply influenced by The World Ends With You that there's no point in denying it on the developer end. So of course the next logical step would be get a full-on collaboration with TWEWY instead, and Reynatis does exactly that.
While the collab itself isn't exceptionally long, you do get a unique Wizart out of it, Mr Mew. Usable by every character, Mr Mew summons a giant plush cat that fires off projectiles that keep enemies stun-locked so you can focus on others. It's great to throw out in the background to keep your combo meter ticking up.
5 Burst Time Plus
Reynatis has, to its credit, a rather unique combat system. While it can be somewhat simplistic, there is a great joy in having time slow down so you can dodge a flurry of bullets as you advance on an enemy. Attacking an enemy when your MP is maxed out will trigger a Burst Liberation, slowing time to a crawl so you can wreak havoc on your opponents,
The utilisation of Burst Liberations becomes pretty central to the combat as you progress, so keeping your MP maxed is essential. Even more powerful though is the Burst Time Plus Wizart, which will make your Burst Liberation last even longer.
4 Combo Effect Up
Pre-release, Reynatis looked to be akin to a character-action game in many ways, with flashy combos and juggled enemies making up the bulk of the gameplay. While it doesn't quite fucntion to the same degree in the game itself, the challenge afforded by a combo meter is retained, prioritising speedy actions in combat.

Who cares if your health bar is low when it looks so good?
Posts By Hilton WebsterAs your combo meter grows, so too does the damage you deal. Normally, this would max out at an extra 50% damage at a 100 hit combo. With the Combo Effect Up Wizart, there is no upper limit. If you manage to achieve a 400 hit combo, you'll be dealing over 200% extra damage. This is a necessity for the game's most difficult endgame challenges.
3 Armor Breaker
While Reynatis does want you to constantly be doing something in combat, keeping your combat meter growing to increase your attack power, it does introduce some bumps along the way. This primarily manifest as the blue armor bar on enemies which needs to be destroyed before you can damage their actual health.
Dogo and Moa are the only characters who can easily destroy this, limiting your party compositions. Throw the Armor Breaker Wizart on anyone else and they'll be capable of breaking away armor just as easily, letting you build out any party that you want.
2 Item Hunter
Core to the experience of Reynatis as the Suppression and Liberation systems. While suppressed, characters hide their magic but cannot see hidden items. On the other hand, hidden items are visible while Liberated, though your Trending rank will increase with the MEA eventually hunting you down.

These video game owl are an absolute hoot!
Posts By Kyle ChamaillardOverall, this ends up being more functionally annoying than thematically effective. Once you've finished the story though you can return to the Church backrooms to finally view the Owl Wizart. This unlocks the Item Hunter Wizart, which highlights Wizart, reports and enemy outlines without you needing to Liberate at all.
1 MP Infinity
MP forms the foundations of combat in Reynatis. As long as you are Liberated, you are draining MP. Attacking, using your skills, and so on all drain MP. Every action basically, while simply waiting or dodging enemy attacks replenishes it. It works, though it can get boring waiting for an enemy to attack just to refill enough MP to attack.
Well MP Infinity is here to remove that wait. Once you have collected all other Wizarts and fully upgraded all of them for each character, MP Infinity automatically unlocks. Just as it sounds, it grants you infinite MP, letting you stay Liberated permanently. All you have to do to trigger a Burst Liberation is dodge a single attack to restock it. It's very much an endgame reward.
