TheGamer has been given the opportunity to kick off Riftbound: Vendetta's preview season with the reveal of one of the set's champion unit cards: Jayce, Brilliant Inventor.

We know from previous leaks that Jayce is a Mind/Body legend (a unique combination), and the following reveal is for Jayce's Mind (Blue) champion unit card. The card (modelled on Jayce's look in Arcane) also has an alternate version, which is a close-up of his Zenith Games skin from League of Legends.

The Man of Progress

Jayce, Brilliant Inventor is a 6 Energy + 1 Blue Power card that reads, "When you play me, or the first time you play a non-token gear each turn, you may ready something besides me that's exhausted."

While relatively expensive, the ability to read anything by playing Jayce or a gear is pretty versatile. You can ready an exhausted unit, or powerful gear like Vanguard Armoury (in non-Jayce blue decks, since he's Blue/Orange).

I feel there are more obvious combinations/uses of this card waiting to be revealed in Vendetta. Jayce appears to be designed around the fact that gear remains on the board indefinitely — expect to see combos that involve tapping and re-readying gear to maximise value in Jayce decks.

Of course, we also received a Jayce champion unit in Spiritforged, which will also be eligible for use as a chosen champion in a Jayce deck. This card, Jayce, Man of Progress, allows you to kill one of your gears to play a larger gear. It's most often used in control Lux decks to cheat out Vanguard Armoury during an early turn.

Both the Body (Orange) version of Jayce and his champion legend have yet to be revealed, but a leak of the former suggests you'll be able to pick one of three bonus effects when the card becomes ready, which would naturally synergise with Jayce, Brilliant Inventor.

The card text of the champion legend is sure to be key to unlocking the power of Jayce's champion units, but we won't know the specifics of these interactions until the card is revealed.

Vendetta's preview season is set to continue until July 18, with the worldwide release occurring on July 31.
