Stardew Valley creator Eric Barone (better known as ConcernedApe) has confirmed in a recent interview that he "hopes" to release Haunted Chocolatier within the next five years or so.

For pretty much as long as Stardew Valley has been a thing, it's remained as the quintessential cosy game, and one of the most popular indie releases of all time. Creator ConcernedApe has continued to drop update after update for Stardew over the years, even though he often claims that he'll be taking a break from it to work on other things.

As great as it is to see Stardew Valley continue to get so much love, there is one problem with ConcernedApe's constant revisits - the lack of Haunted Chocolatier updates. For those that don't remember, Haunted Chocolatier is the next game from Barone that was announced all the way back in 2021 and still seems to be a long ways off releasing.

Here's Hoping ConcernedApe Sticks With It Instead Of Updating Stardew

Stardew Valley fans have been eager to see what Barone's next big game looks like, and it's something that he's talked about continuing work on for some time in-between Stardew updates. Still, even with confirmation that it's not gone anywhere and is still an evolving project, everyone's wondering what's going on with it and why we've not heard much.

That exact question is something that Barone was asked recently when appearing on TigerBelly podcast with Bobby Lee. As pointed out by Shacknews, Lee asked Barone about Haunted Chocolatier's status and why it's been so long since we've heard about it, as the original trailer was nearly four years ago.

Lee specifically says that Haunted Chocolatier seems to be pretty far along in development and asks Barone if he thinks it'll be released in the next five years. Barone replies by saying that he hopes so, and that's "the goal" for him, before admitting that there's "still a lot to be done" on the game.

Although your mind might instantly jump to 2030 being Haunted Chocolatier's release date, it's worth noting that within five years could mean any time between now and then.

While that might seem a little wild considering how long Haunted Chocolatier has been in the works, Barone admits that he thinks that Haunted Chocolatier has to be "better" than Stardew Valley considering how much anticipation there is behind it. Knowing how ConcernedApe works, that means he's not going to be releasing it or sharing many more details until he's sure it's ready.
