Don't Know How To Extract In Sand: Raiders Of Sophie? Here's How To Leave With All Your Loot
Sand: Raiders of Sophie is a new extraction game that draws heavy inspiration from titles such as Sea of Thieves. Players assume the role of a raider who is both a scavenger and pilot of giant mechs known as Tramplers. In this game, you will battle with other players and A.I. in an attempt to escape with your hard-earned loot.
Unsurprisingly, this means you cannot simply just log off when you're done, as players will need to extract both themselves and their mech if they want to keep their stuff. This can be a little tricky, as extraction is ringing a dinner bell for PvP-minded players and will require you to leave the safety of your Trampler.
Here is everything you need to know about extracting, along with some helpful tips that may keep you alive.
How To Extract
To extract in Sand: Raiders of Sophie, you will need to first visit one of the designated extraction zones. These are marked on your personal map and the one next to your cockpit as door icons. There will be several around the map at any time, and whether they remain active entirely depends on the game mode you're playing.
For those in Storm Dive, extraction zones are only available so long as the closing ring hasn't passed by them yet. When that happens, those extraction areas become inaccessible, and you will need to find a new location. As for Voyage mode, the extraction zones are always available, and their spawn points are randomized.
When you get close to an extraction zone, you will want to look out for a very tall radio tower that's typically on a pile of boulders. Getting close will mark the tower on your HUD, so bring the Trampler close and then either turn it off or put it in Halt mode. Once the Trampler has stopped, get out of your mech and head towards the tower on foot.
You'll now need to climb up two very tall ladders to reach the top of the tower. There you will find a radio that you can interact with. Doing so will start a 90-second timer, and a bright green smoke flare will begin spouting from the top of your mech. Once the timer expires a large ship will fly over your mech and pick it up. This will indicate that your Trampler will be successfully extracted.
As for you, once the timer hits zero, a new, much shorter one will start as a zipline from the ship will drop. The zipline will be marked on your HUD, so quickly head over and interact with it. Doing so will ensure that the player character will also extract and is now safe from being killed during this process.
At the time of writing this, using these extraction zones is the only way to actually leave the map. Keep in mind, only one Trampler at a time can extract, so if you see another player there, just keep your distance and wait your turn. Once they leave, you can then roll up, interact with the radio in the tower, and leave.

Scout Ahead
Extracting is one of the most dangerous moments in Sand, as you will need to both leave your mech and have bright green smoke blowing in the air that signals to everyone nearby your intentions. Because of this, it's vital that you take your time and ensure that the actual extraction site is safe before moving in.
Players can easily either hide themselves among the ruins or even turn their mechs off nearby, so there's no smoke and wait for someone to try to extract. I typically use my binoculars to do a visual scan of the area around me and circle around the extract at least once to make sure that I don't see any enemy players waiting for me.
The tower itself is actually a great place to scout your surroundings once you start the countdown. While not all locations are wide open areas, many of them are, and you can easily see hostile Tramplers from quite a distance if you use your binoculars while at the top of the tower.
Leave The Trampler Running
Whether you are playing solo or with friends, I recommend putting the Trampler in "Halt" mode instead of turning it off when you start the extraction. The black smoke doesn't really matter, since anyone looking will see the green smoke, so having the Trampler ready to move if someone rushes you is vital.
I've experienced a few players who immediately run towards the extraction point when they see the green smoke, which can be dangerous if you've turned the mech completely off. For those who are playing with others, only send one person out to start the extraction while the other mans the mech and scouts for hostiles.
Prepare For Approaching Walkers
If you do find yourself facing a walker rushing you, fire up a green flare into the air. This is typically considered a signal to other players that you're friendly, and if someone responds with their own green flare, then they may have no intention of attacking. If a walker is getting too close, focus your cannon fire on the legs of the enemy Trampler.
Always make sure to face the enemy walker head-on, as presenting your side will open you up to an easy broadside which can do a severe amount of damage.
Hitting it enough times will cripple the walker, slowing their advance down and making it much more difficult for them to challenge your escape. Alternatively, you can always aim for any guns or the pilot's wheel to reduce their chances of getting closer without sustaining casualties. If needed, leave the extraction zone and either look for a new location or engage with the enemy walker so you aren't a sitting duck.
