Sonic X Shadow Generations is a good remaster of a fan-favourite game, but it's Shadow's story that steals the show, acting as more of a remake.

How To Get An S Rank In Planet Wisp
Unlike most other levels in Sonic Generations, Planet Wisp takes quite a while to complete. More than any other Act in the game. And so it's only fair that its requirements for an S Rank are a fair bit eased to accommodate that. It's still a struggle though, so here are some tips to get you to the finish line in record time.
Planet Wisp Act 1 S Rank
As Classic Sonic, Planet Wisp has you frequently taking the form of a purple spiked ball to traverse across walls and ceilings. It is cumbersome and slow and controls far worse than Classic Sonic. You'll also be spending most of the level in that form, so get used to it.
Right from the beginning, keep up your momentum to reach the floating platforms over the hill. Keep in mind that the enemy up here will throw their axe at you and it is very difficult to avoid, potentially knocking you back down to the low route.
Once you pick up the spiked ball, transform into it and use Spin Dash to quickly scale the walls. This will bring you to the higher route and get you through the factory a little quicker.
Once inside the factory, take whatever path you can that doesn't require the spiked ball. While they are likely intended to be slower, they end up being faster just by merit of how awkward the spiked ball is to control.
The spiked ball power-up is on a timer before it runs out, though picking up another power-up while in this form will reset that timer.
Planet Wisp is a very samey level without much in terms of defining features to describe. However, no route feels easy to follow, either. Instead, simply go whichever route you naturally find yourself falling into. This will be faster than second-guessing yourself while trying to find the optimal route.
Finishing Planet Wisp with a time under 6:20 minutes and a score of 50,000 will get you an A Rank, and a Perfect Clear will level that up to an S Rank.
Planet Wisp Act 2 S Rank
In an ironic twist, Modern Sonic's run through Planet Wisp feels much more responsive than Classic Sonic's due to the rocket power-up, which is used much less frequently. It can even be a fun level!
From the beginning, land on the floating platforms that lead to a cannon, and then run directly to the cave in the next area. Follow through to the next area and use your Homing Attack to get higher. There is a LIghtspeed Dash ahead, though it is very hard to land. Thankfully, it only saves a second or two.
After the grind rails and beginning the side-scrolling section, quickly jump onto the floating platforms. These will collapse after a few seconds, so try to scale them quickly, and take advantage of Homing Attack on the flying enemies to get even higher, avoiding the cannon in the next area for a few seconds saved.
With the rocket power-up, you can tell where to use it by the arrow-shaped trail of rings that will be in the environment.
In the next section with rockets firing from the walls and a series of red platforms, climb upwards as fast as you can to collect the rocket, and then use it immediately to get to a new area.
When you next use a rocket, try to aim the rocket as precisely as you can so that you can get into the Directional Cannon through the barrier for a shortcut. This is quite difficult to land, however.
Once you start encountering the carts on rails, follow them for the remainder of the Act. This will always lead to you the fastest route. This is even easier when there are enemies on them, as you can use Homing Attack to quickly close in on them.
You can also Boost while on carts to make them move faster without Sonic falling off.
After you crash through the next barrier, make sure to pick up the rocket by the handle, as you can use this partway along the route on the next cart to unlock another shortcut to the top.
The remainder of the level is fairly linear, so just keep on following the rockets upwards to reach the goal.
Finishing this Act in under 5:40 minutes and a score of 50,000 will get you an A Rank, and a Perfect Clear will increase it to an S Rank.
Where To Find Every Red Star Ring In Planet Wisp
Red Star Rings were a staple collectible of the original Sonic Generations, and they return in this release completely unchanged. Still ten per location, still five per Hedgehog, and still in all the same locations.
Planet Wisp Act 1 Red Stars
Here's where to find all five Red Stars in Classic Sonic's run through Planet Wisp.
- Red Star 1: Found on the ceiling above a gap after picking up the first spiked ball upgrade outside.
- Red Star 2: Found in a sealed room with fire blocks after accessing the factory through the higher route.
- Red Star 3: Found in the right corner of the ceiling in a room with collapsible platforms. Can also be reached by Spin Dashing from the quarterpipe below it.

- Red Star 5: In the room with rockets firing from the left wall and a gear that can be ridden upwards. Found in the air along the gear's path.

Planet Wisp Act 2 Red Stars
And here is where to find the other five Red Stars in Modern Sonic's side of things.

- Red Star 3: On the end of the side-stepping path that leads to a zipline.
- Red Star 4: Use a rocket power-up from on top of an on-rail platform to reach a new area with the red star.
- Red Star 5: After a wall-jumping section that leads to a handle, the red star is found at the top.
This will reward you with the Skill, Ring Energy Bonus.
Where To Find Every Hidden Chao In Planet Wisp
A brand-new feature in Sonic X Shadow Generations are the addition of six Chao hidden in every one of Sonic's locations, leaving three for each version of Sonic to find.
Planet Wisp Act 1 Hidden Chaos
Here's where to find Classic Sonic's trio of Chao.
- Hidden Chao 1: Following the lowest route from the beginning, the Chao is found on top of a mushroom-esque tree after the quarterpipe.
- Hidden Chao 2: Inside the factory area to the left of the semi-exterior area with many gears, you can find it beneath a spiked ball power-up.
- Hidden Chao 3: Underneath a spiked ball power-up beside a gear and a section of the floor that shoots rockets.
Planet Wisp Act 2 Hidden Chaos
And here is where to find Modern Sonic's medley of Chao.
- Hidden Chao 1: After being fired from the rocket, you can find the Chao a few steps away from the next one.
- Hidden Chao 2: In the side-scrolling section with a series of worm enemies, the Chao is found nestled in the right corner below a moving platform.
- Hidden Chao 3: Found after crashing through a barrier in rocket form and to the right.
And that is Planet Wisp wrapped up. It's not the most joyous of levels if you like going fast, for Classic Sonic especially. But now it is complete. and quite possibly all of Sonic's side of this adventure with it. Congrats!
