Sonic X Shadow Generations is a good remaster of a fan-favourite game, but it's Shadow's story that steals the show, acting as more of a remake.
Posts By Rhiannon BevanSo with that in mind, we're taking a look at Speed Highway, a classic level in Sonic's history, and one of the more exciting levels in this game, too. It has lots of twists and turns to take advantage of, as well as a healthy dose of collectibles, so we're here to help you find them all.
How To Get An S Rank In Speed Highway
Speed Highway is, you guessed it, all about speed. You'll want to be doing fast to avoid the police enemies catching you, cars hitting you, and generally falling. Keep that speed up to find your S Rank at the end of the road.
Speed Highway Act 1 S Rank
As Classic Sonic, Act 1 still has a high focus on speed, though as is typical for Classic Sonic, you'll still want to keep an eye on your footing and jump tactically.
Right at the very beginning, jump at the end of the trail of rings to bounce off some balloons, leading you to a higher route.
After ascending the platforms of this higher route, keep up your speed and bounce off the flying enemies to reach an even higher route.
After crashing into the building with the rocket, immediately jump after passing through the checkpoint to get into a higher room, letting you bypass some of the lower sections.
After exiting the glass hallways, jump onto the flying enemy to fall down the left-leaning slope to a lower route that is overall faster.
In the section with the dumpsters that toss you into the air, you will encounter a series of collapsing platforms moving upwards. Time your jumps across these to reach a higher section with a checkpoint.
After all this, you will have completed Act 1. Any time under 2:30 minutes and a score of 50,000 will grant you an A Rank, with a Perfect Clear upgrading it to an S Rank.
Speed Highway Act 2 S Rank
Act 2, focusing on Modern Sonic, has much more high-speed action. You'll still want to keep your eyes open though, because secret routes hide in every corner.
Immediately after beginning, you'll want to boost and then jump forward. This will bring you to a grind rail and a faster route.
After passing through the next checkpoint, you can perform a very tricky jump. Instead of jumping off the Rainbow Ramp, jump over it. You will fall lower, but can skip a massive portion of the interior by boosting into Dash Ring in a hole in the building.
There will also be some Eggman bounce pads on the wall. Boost when you see them to reach the hole in time.
While skydiving from the helicopter, aim for the three floating platforms. This will let you bypass the lower area and the enemies protecting it.
After landing on the highway after the rocket, drift around the corner and immediately jump to the upper highway. Be careful here and keep to the left. If you fall off, you'll have to do a full circle around again rather than continue on a lower route.
And now Act 2 is complete! Any time under 2:20 and a score of 50,000 or higher will earn you an A Rank with a Perfect Clear bumping it up to an S Rank.
Where To Find Every Red Star Ring In Speed Highway
Virtually unchanged since their debut in the original Sonic Generations, Red Star Rings return. There are five to be found in each Act, giving you ten to search out in total. Here's where to find them all, and the skills they reward you.
Speed Highway Act 1 Red Stars
There are five Red Star Rings to find in Act 1. Not all of them are hidden in the quicker routes, so make sure to explore thoroughly. Here's where to find each of them.
- Red Star Ring 1: In the lowest section of the interior building, this star is found by jumping through a Dash Ring over some spikes.
- Red Star Ring 2: In the parking garage, found between spiked balls on a diagonal-moving platform.
- Red Star Ring 3: By the bell inside the interior building around its center.
- Red Star Ring 4: Follow the high route after the halfpipe in the scaffolding.
- Red Star Ring 5: From the high route just before completing the Act, inside a Dash Ring.
This unlocks the Skill, Power Sneakers.
Speed Highway Act 2 Red Stars
Like Act 1, there are five Red Star Rings to find here as well. They can't all be acquired in a single run, so make sure to play through a few times.
- Red Star Ring 1: Right at the beginning by boosting and dashing to reach a grind rail.
- Red Star Ring 2: At the end of a Lightspeed Dash just before the Rainbow Ramp to the helicopter.
- Red Star Ring 3: While dashing downwards through the skyscraper interior, right by the end before landing.
- Red Star Ring 4: By jumping through some Rainbow Rings to land on the highway towards the goal. The star is in the Rainbow Rings.
- Red Star Ring 5: After jumping onto the upper highway near the end, follow it along some rooftops to find the final star.
This unlocks the Skill, Auto-Gauge.
Where To Find Every Hidden Chao In Speed Highway
There are three Chao to be found in every Act of Sonic X Shadow Generations, meaning there are 6 in each location. These are a new addition to this release and while they serve no real purpose, they look very cute.
Speed Highway Act 1 Chaos
There are three chaos to be found here, found across various routes so you'll need a few runs here as well.
- Hidden Chao 1: Take the lower route to find this chao sitting on a 24 Hour Coffee neon sign.
- Hidden Chao 2: A bell tower on the exterior has a chao hidden inside. Hit it a few times to knock them free.
- Hidden Chao 3: After dropping from the helicopter, immediately turn around to find a chao waiting to the left.
Speed Highway Act 2 Chaos
Another three chao can be found in Act 2, some of them hidden in rather cruel areas that make them very easy to miss.
- Hidden Chao 1: While climbing platforms outside, head to the directional cannon on the left and shoot upwards. The chao is waiting beside some spikes.
- Hidden Chao 2: Drop onto the floating platforms while skydiving from the helicopter. The chao is waiting on one of them.
- Hidden Chao 3: Near the end in a side-scrolling section, there will be a rocket you grab to bring you back to the highway. Jump over it to find the chao.
With thosefinal few chaos, you will have gotten a taste of everything there is in SPeed Highway, and hopefully grabbed yourself an S Rank along the way.
