Ten Years Ago Today, We Played The Witcher 3 For The First Time
Summary
- It has been ten years since the launch of The Witcher 3.
- Players share their favourite memories from the game.
- To no surprise, many have fond memories of Geralt being a father to Ciri.
The Witcher 3 turns ten years old today. Yes, really. I know, I can feel my bones turning to dust, too.
Believe it or not, it's been a full decade since many of us started our playthroughs of The Witcher 3. We probably didn't think that, ten years later, we'd still be waiting for a sequel, but here we are. At least we know The Witcher 4 is on the way now, and putting Ciri front and centre.

We won't be playing them until 2027 at the earliest.
PostsSo, now that we know that The Witcher 3 was the last game (at least for a while) to have Geralt as the lead, it's a fitting time to look back on the journeys we took him on. To mark the occasion, CD Projekt Red is asking players to share their favourite memories of the game, and a lot of them have a similar theme.
The official release date is May 19, 2015. However, it actually went live for many of us late on May 18, with today marking ten years since we started the game.
Happy Birthday, The Witcher 3
Let's celebrate by remembering all the times we kissed Yennefer
Unsurprisingly, many players are reflecting on all the times that Papa Geralt fought alongside Ciri. However, some have particularly fond memories of the ending in which she becomes a Witcher, as Geralt gets to pass the torch down to his adoptive daughter.
But of course, others remember The Witcher 3 best for its romances. Yennefer or Triss has been a debate amongst fans for years, although judging by the comments I'm seeing, the Yen fans are the ones out in full force. That said, if you tried to go after both of them, the consequences of that might very well be the most memorable moment of the game for you.
In any case, happy birthday, The Witcher 3. Thank you for making us all feel old. The Witcher 4 isn't likely to be with us until at least 2027, so we have plenty of time to fit a few more playthroughs in.
