There are a lot of eyes on The Blood of Dawnwalker, the upcoming action RPG developed by former CD Projekt Red devs. Many will be hoping that this fills the void left between The Witcher releases, but now, it turns out that it's also borrowing a feature from the Mass Effect and Dragon Age games.

Speaking with CGMagazine earlier this month, game director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz revealed that our choices in The Blood of Dawnwalker will carry over into future games. This suggests that we'll be able to import our choices or even full world states in the sequels, letting our version of the protagonist, Coen, be explored even further as the series goes on.

The Blood of Dawnwalker Sequels Are Already Being Discussed

"The idea is to create games which will lead you to the eras and different countries, different cultures, different local legends and myths and different species of the creatures of the night with Coen," Tomaszkiewicz explains. He goes on to say that we can expect a "consistent story" as the games continue.

"The promise is that we will keep this character, that we will grow with Coen, that you can shape him, that you can transfer your shapes, and your choices will be taken into consideration in the next parts," he says. "This way, you will be able to know some really consistent adventure, and this story through all the games."

While he doesn't detail exactly how this will work, this sounds a lot like how the Mass Effect series handled its choices. Here, you could transfer your particular Commander Shepard over to the next game, along with their choices and character relationships. If the Dawnwalker games are going to span different eras, that presumably makes it a little easier for the devs to handle all the different character choices, since many side characters will (presumably) be dead by the time a sequel takes place, but it sounds like Coen will be our one constant, at the very least.

Dragon Age had a similar system, but this was even more expansive, seeing us import entire world states. That's because we played as a different protagonist for each game, so we imported their effect on the world more so than our characters themselves. However, it looks like Dawnwalker's method will be more focused on Coen as a character.

The Blood of Dawnwalker is set to launch on September 3, 2026.
