The Dark Pictures Anthology: The Devil In Me - Ultimatum Scene Walkthrough
Though it seems like the goal of The Dark Pictures Anthology: The Devil in Me is to keep all the members of Lonnit Entertainment alive until they can escape from the serial killer, there’s another ending that requires specific requirements to be reached to be achieved. And one of those guidelines is to kill more than half your group, on purpose.

We get to see a bit of Kate and Mark’s history, but the ultimatum ending for the game looks into their futures instead, and no matter your choices, those futures are bleak. Follow along with our guide for how to navigate the Ultimatum Ending.
For this ending, more than anything, the decisions you’ve made matter here more than almost anywhere else in the game; The Dark Pictures Anthology games always make sure you know you’re culpable.
We’ve gone through the game several times in an effort to bring you our most complete coverage of The Devil in Me.
Setting Up The Ultimatum Ending
We have a complete guide on how to get yourself to the Ultimatum Ending. Check it out here and follow along with the steps to get yourself through the game so that only Kate and Mark are left alive before the Lighthouse scene begins.
You may have discovered this in your playthrough if you had enough accidents with your other crew members. If you’re doing this on purpose, though, below are the quickest way to kill the remaining crew.
Erin, Charlie, and Jamie's Earliest Deaths
Erin
Choose to attack Du’Met during the Blackout scene
Charlie
Force the door twice during the Ignition scene
Jamie
Either become trapped in the wall with Du’Met during the Director’s Suite scene chase, or give Kate the screwdriver and crush Jamie in the glass trap
Thankfully, Mark has plot armor and doesn’t have his first possible death until the very end of the game. Keeping Kate alive is easy enough, too: if Kate is not killed in the glass trap, then she doesn’t have another possible death until the end of the game.
The Lighthouse Scene
Normally, the Lighthouse scene is a triumphant one, but without Charlie and Erin, Mark is on his own. Investigate the lighthouse until Du’Met attacks Mark, and your player character changes to Kate.
Enter the lighthouse as Kate, and feel free to explore its collectible secrets if you haven’t found them already. When you’re ready to continue, send Kate into the side room off the living room, which takes you upstairs. Interact with the door to progress.
In the room, Kate has a choice to make: investigate the door to see what the bumping noises are, or help Mark where he’s lying on the floor.
In order to progress with the Ultimatum Ending for The Devil in Me, have Kate help Mark when given the choice.
Doing so earns you the “Award Worthy” achievement for believing Du’Met’s acting.
Du’Met knocks Kate out, and the scene switches.
The Ultimatum
Mark wakes up in a cage with a telephone on one wall and a window on another. When the window opens, Kate is hooked up to a container of hydrochloric acid.
Du’Met shows Mark a video of Joseph Morello, who explains that Mark needs to act as a ferryman for Du'Met exactly as Morello had to your group. Kate begs Mark to save her, and Mark is made to decide how to handle the situation: he can either agree to make the call or decline to help.
The First Decision: Call Or Decline
Make the call
Mark grabs the phone and script, and Du'Met picks up a phone in the surgical room as well.
Decline to participate
Du'Met begins the hydrochloric acid drip, and Kate dies. After Mark watches, Du'Met turns the gas chamber on. Mark dies, fulfilling the Masked photo premonition.
Once on the phone with June Collins, you can either persuade her with Du’Met’s offer or beg her for help.
The Second Decision: Persuade Or Plead
Persuade June
The scene progresses as intended.
Beg for help
Du'Met is also on the line and hears Mark's pleas. Du'Met kills Kate and Mark the same as above.
Choosing to invite the family is also an achievement, called “The Cycle Continues.”
If Mark agrees, then it’s all cutscenes from here on out. Mark ushers the next group to the hotel as instructed and flees with Kate on the ferry. You cut to the curator for his ending spiel, and then back to Kate and Mark on the ferry again.
The boat stops in the lake and turns around, where Du’Met is waiting with a rifle. You hear two gunshots as the screen fades, officially achieving the Ultimatum Ending.
Congratulations on finishing The Devil in Me!
