Beyond the amazing introduction to the Dark Brotherhood that happens if you choose to kill another person, the questline is full of memorable twists and turns. Perhaps the biggest of these is when the Brotherhood starts being betrayed, which happens fairly early on in the quest. It turns out that if you're eagle-eyed enough, you might be able to spot what's happening before being told.

Oblivion Remastered's Dead Drop Letters Hint At What's Happening To The Dark Brotherhood

The Proof Is In The Wax

Once you've joined the Dark Brotherhood in Oblivion, you'll start receiving Dead Drop Orders, with the first two coming from Lucien, who inducted you into the Brotherhood. After the second Dead Drop Letter, the Brotherhood starts being betrayed, and that's where the interesting hidden detail comes in.

As pointed out by Redditor Famous_Cupcake2980 on the Oblivion subreddit, every Dead Drop Letter after the first two is very different and clearly written by someone else. Not only do the new Dead Drop Letters no longer have the wax seal, but they're also written with a different font, implying that the person writing them has changed.

This detail was also in the original version of Oblivion, but it's just as charming now as it was back then.

This is clearly signalling that someone else is writing the letters instead of Lucien, but that's not the only detail hinting at the twist. Other Redditors on the thread pointed out that the writing in the orders gets a lot more dramatic after the second two, once again implying that it's no longer Lucien writing them and that they've been intercepted.

It's a fairly minor detail in the grand scheme of things and one that's easier to spot if you know what's coming, but that doesn't stop it from being a great bit of attention to detail. Oh, Dark Brotherhood, could we love you any more?
