To add more of a challenge to The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered, many enemies will need to be dealt with differently. For example, you won’t be able to use certain spells on certain creatures since they might be immune to them. You can find this quality in the annoying Will-o-the-Wisp enemy. They can be rather dangerous if you don’t know how to deal with them.

Fortunately, there are a few ways of defending yourself against this type of enemy. Most of the following methods work with the many builds you can create in the game. So, you won’t need to alter much.

How To Find Will-O-The-Wisps

A lot of animals and creatures can be found randomly in the world of Cyrodiil. However, if you head west of Bruma, you can find a large concentration of Will-o-the-Wisps at Azura’s Shrine. But, for them to appear in this location, make sure you’re at the shrine at dusk or dawn. You may even find them in the Horn Cave, south of Imperial City.

Some quests, like Mystery at Harlun’s Watch, will also have you fighting the Will-o-the-Wisps.

Since Oblivion Remastered’s world becomes available right after the tutorial, you have the option to tackle these creatures at the start, if you choose to.

How To Fight A Will-O-The-Wisp

As mentioned, these creatures don’t go down through conventional means. So, that wooden axe or long sword you’ve been holding on to won’t work. On the other hand, weapons that fall in the Silver category will do the trick.

If you’re a mage who uses Destruction Magic, you can easily fend off these balls of energy.

Alternatively, Will-o-the-Wisps are surprisingly not immune to physical damage, which can be accomplished simply by using the Hand-to-Hand skill. However, if you level up this skill, it may allow you to do significantly more damage than your Silver Weapon.

Defeating the enemy can be challenging due to their size, behavior, and speed. They are not only fast but also small, which can make them harder to hit.

When one approaches you, it’ll start draining your health and Magicka. This can be negated when you use Mysticism. By activating this ability, you’ll counter its attack, andyou might start taking away its energy.

This can help if you're not a strong enough character. Otherwise, as it's making your health and mana go down, you can attack the Will-o-the-Wisp with any of the aforementioned weapons or magic spells.

However, they do become invisible, which makes the fight a lot tougher. To alleviate this problem, consider using the Detect Life spell that reveals any hidden enemies.

If you don’t have this spell, the other option would be to fight near water. The water will show you where they are since the Will-o-the-Wisps make the water move a little around them.
