There is not much to do near Dawnstar. Though it is one of the few cities with a port in Skyrim, the freezing cold keeps the city from flourishing. If, for whatever reason, you choose to explore the snowfields nearby, you might stumble across a Nordic ruin. As common as they are, there is always treasure waiting within.

This time, you find another adventurer inside, Anska. She is searching for a scroll that is sealed within the ruins and needs help getting through the draugr and Dragon Priest inside. This is a short distraction that hides some valuable treasure.

Starting A Scroll For Anska

You will have to go to High Gate Ruins, to the west of Dawnstar to start the quest. Anska will be inside. If spoken to, she will explain that she is looking for a scroll inside the ruins that the Dragon Priest owns. She asks you for help, having struggled just to get inside.

You can clear High Gate Ruins before accepting the quest to ensure that she stays alive to reward you at the end.

She will follow you through the dungeon, helping you in combat. High Gate ruins is your run-of-the-mill Nordic ruin with only draugr in your way.

Solving The Puzzles

You will encounter the first puzzle not long after entering the ruins. It is in a large, open chamber, with a metal gate blocking the stairs. To open the gate, you need to find the four levers spread throughout the chamber and pull them in the order indicated on the ceiling.

  1. Bird
  2. Fish
  3. Fox
  4. Snake

The stairs will automatically unlock, letting you enter High Gate Catacombs.

More draugr wait at the catacombs, where you will find your path blocked in an empty room with a single lever. You will need to pull that lever, opening a room with a draugr and another lever. Pull the second lever to reveal another, similar room. Pulling the lever in the final room will unseal the room and allow you to continue.

The final draugr here will use shouts at higher levels, potentially hitting you even if you haven't opened its chamber.

You will reach Vokun's Throne Room at the end.

Defeating Vokun

The Dragon Priest is interred in his chamber and will awaken when you enter the room. Like other Dragon Priests, he is a powerful mage that will use powerful Flame spells against you. He will also summon a Flame or Storm Atronach.

You can duck behind pillars during the fight if you need cover.

Once he is defeated, make sure to take his mask. This will be your only chance to get it. Head up a staircase at the back of the chamber to reach a Word Wall with a word for the Storm Call shout and Anska's scroll.

Vokun, the mask not the priest, lowers the cost of Conjuration, Illusion, and Alteration spells by 20 percent.

Anska will give you the spell tome for Conjure Flaming Familiar, a spell that creates a burning wolf that runs at enemies and explodes when in range. With the scroll in hand, the quest ends.
