The continent of Fevrith is consumed by war and turmoil as the resurrected Zenorian Empire. As the exiled prince of Cornia, Alain, you can liberate the territories of the other nations while recruiting and building up your units and formations.

The tactical combat in Unicorn Overlord is split into two different parts. On the one hand, you can move around units to gain a tactical vantage point. On the other hand, the actual battles are automatic, with your units and the enemy going through a cycle of actions until the turns run out, and you either win or go to the next round.

In several cutscenes, you can also decide on the fate of some would-be allies, who would have them join your cause or eliminate them. These moments don't affect the outcome of the overall story, but they do change what rapport and relationship boosts are available.

6 Goblin Slayer Another Adventurer: Nightmare Feast

The Goblin Slayer tactical RPG works a lot like The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy. It's a tactical fighting game against monsters like goblins and other foes from the series, and has a visual novel aspect in the story progression.

The difference starts with the gameplay style, with Danganronpa being more of an investigative murder mystery taking place in Hope's Peak Academy.

Fans of the character art design made by Rui Komatsuzaki will enjoy this game's characters and the style of the world around them, as there will be a lot of crossover elements from the two games. The rest of the Danganronpa saga can also count alongside the first installment and the series in general is beloved for its unique style brought by the artist.

13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim is a complex strategy RPG with an incredibly in-depth story. It goes through different narratives and timelines while you play and encounter 13 unique characters as they pilot giant mechs to fight an invading legion of robots called Kaiju.

The combat is hardcore turn-based tactics, relying on the positioning of mechs to take on the kaiju. Lost Eidolons: Veil of the Witch is a great tactics game where you control a group of mercenaries to help overthrow the dark emperor. The game's visuals and action are more akin to a realistic form of Fire Emblem, but they're dynamically detailed, especially in the battlefield details when you focus on a singular unit in battle.

Lost Eidolons is a great alternative game to The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy if you're not keen on the visual novel elements but love the gameplay. The action is there, the strategic gameplay is strong, and the design of the characters and units is very good. Lovers of the tactical RPG genre will definitely enjoy this game.
