The Slormancer has an endless number of possible builds for your character, thanks to the hundred-plus Slorm Reapers that provide build-defining effects. Leveling through the campaign of the game as any of the three classes can be done with almost any build you choose. Then, once you reach the end of the campaign, the real grind sets in, and you can refine your build further.

Here's an overview of each class and its Specializations in The Slormancer.
PostsBefore all that, though, you may need some pointers for where to start building your character. If that's the case, we've got you covered. Below, we'll take a look at an example leveling build for the Mage for making it through The Slormancer's campaign. Once you're comfortable with the class, you can change up this build however you want, thanks to the game's easy respecs.
Leveling Slorm Reaper
Since the Slorm Reapers you find on your journey are random, we recommend you stick with the Adam Nostrus' Staff until you find a suitable replacement. This staff has decent stats that work for this build, and provides bonuses for opening and closing breaches as the Reaper evolves.
Build-Specific Slorm Reapers
Here are some options for more specific Slorm Reapers to consider that work well with this build, if you happen to get them.
- Shockwave Staff of Havoc
- Manabender
- Drum-Staff of War
- Mana Harvesting Staff
- Energy Overflowing Staff
- Staff of Ferocious Affinity
Reaper Runes
Unlocked through The Great Forge, Reaper Runes let you add additional effects to your character. These are by no means necessary for the leveling process, and it can take a bit of effort to get the exact ones you want. That said, here are our suggestions for this build, if you get lucky or want to spend time grinding them out instead of playing the campaign.

Leveling Skills
CloseThe core of this build is Arcane Missiles, which is upgraded to generate tons of Remnants of itself. These are then amplified by Arcane Breach and Time Warp to create Temporal Clones that also cast Remnants, covering the screen in projectiles.
Arcane Missile
Mastery I
Remnant Copycat
Mastery II
Temporal Missile
Mastery III
Evolve and Overcome
Mastery IV
Remnant Lock
Mastery V
Emblematic Missile
Arcane Missiles is the main damage-dealer of this build. In the first Mastery upgrade slot, we have Remnant Copycat, which lets our many Temporal Clones cast an Arcane Missile Remnant. We'll be adding Temporal Clones to our arsenal through Arcane Breach and Time Warp.
In the second Mastery slot, we are using Temporal Missile to turn Arcane Missile into a Temporal spell, granting a Temporal Emblem instead of an Arcanic one. This synergizes with the fifth Mastery upgrade, Emblematic Missile, which will trigger an additional Arcane Missile Remnant for each non-Arcanic Emblem.
Evolve and Overcome gives Arcane Missile a chance to Pierce, Fork, and Rebound according to the highest among these stats. To get the most out of this upgrade, forge your gear with a focus on one of these stats. These stats don't apply to Remnants, but they will give some extra DPS to the main Arcane Missile.
Finally, Remnant Lock gives your Remnants a chance to inflict Time-Lock, which makes the enemy unable to move or attack, and any damage dealt to them is instead delayed for three seconds. However, depleting a Time-Locked enemy's health bar will still kill them, so you don't have to worry about every enemy taking three seconds to die.
Remnant Lock adds a lot of survivability to this build, as Time-Locked enemies won't be able to attack you.
Arcane Breach
Mastery I
Uninvited Guest
Mastery II
Multi-Breaches
Mastery III
Almighty Remains
Mastery IV
Ephemeral Rift
Mastery V
Gravitational Force
Arcane Breach is our Secondary Skill that supports our goal of creating Temporal Clones for Arcane Missile Remnants. Its first Mastery upgrade, Uninvited Guest, creates a Temporal Clone when the Arcane Breach ends. At max rank, the chance to create a Clone is 100 percent.
This pairs with the fourth Mastery upgrade, Ephemeral Rift, which makes Arcane Breach only last for three seconds, allowing you to get the Clone out faster. This also synergizes with Multi-Breaches to give Arcane Breach a near-100 percent uptime.
Almighty Remains gives you additional Critical Strike Chance with your Remnants against enemies inside the Breach. Critical Strikes are one of the main ways we will scale the damage of this build, so this upgrade is a big help.
Finally, we have Gravitational Force as the final Mastery upgrade to pull in nearby enemies. This isn't the most useful, but it gets a bit more use than Rifts of Oblivion, since we won't be using Arcanic Emblems.
Time Warp
Mastery I
Experienced Battlemage
Mastery II
Clone Wars
Mastery III
Shamanic Knowledge
Mastery IV
Blasts from the Past
Mastery V
Overdrive's Vestige
Mastery VI
Out of Time
Mastery VII
Phlegmatic Scholar
Mastery VIII
Heavier Cannon
Time Warp not only adds mobility to this build, but whenever you use it, you create a Temporal Clone at your starting position, which will then cast Remnants.
For our Mastery upgrades, we have Experienced Battlemage to increase Critical Strike Damage, the value of which scales as you level up.
Clone Wars is a vital part of this build, allowing your Temporal Clones to cast Arcane Missile Remnants. Shamanic Knowledge then increases the effectiveness of your Totems, which Clones are classified as.
Blasts from the Past increases the damage of each Remnant, then Overdrive's Vestige gives them a chance to deal Overdrive damage, targeting additional enemies.
In the sixth Mastery upgrade slot, we have Out of Time. This node makes your Temporal Clones unable to take damage, which allows them to survive for their full duration. This node is invaluable for setting up your Remnant-casting Clones.
As mentioned above, Phlegmatic Scholar synergizes with the Emblematic Missile node for Arcane Missile, granting an additional Remnant cast.
Finally, Heavier Cannon provides additional Max Life and Attack Speed, and is the best of the three eighth-level Mastery choices for this build.
Ancestral Legacy
You'll gain Ancestral Stones as you make your way through the campaign, which can then be slotted into the Ancestral Legacy board to unlock additional effects and stats.
For your first Stone, unlock the Raw Emergency circle, which will then let you get The Viper circle with your second Stone. This node provides two important stats for this build: Movement Speed and Attack Speed. The Cooldown Reduction is also nice to have to make more Arcane Breaches.
The Hex Commander node that branches from Raw Emergency is also worth investing in to boost Elemental Damage and Mana Regeneration.
We will further increase Elemental Damage through the Elemental Boost and Elemental Reward nodes that branch from Burning Shadow, so slowly invest in these as you unlock your remaining Ancestral Stones.
Attributes And Stats
This build is based on a solid mechanical foundation, so your Attributes and gear stats will help scale up its damage and survivability.
Attributes
As you level up, put your first few Attribute points into Dexterity for extra Attack Speed, and Savagery for Raw Damage. Fury is also good for eventually increasing Critical Strike Chance, although this isn't as important early on.
If you ever find yourself in need of more survivability, put some extra points into Toughness for more Armor and Max Life.
Stats
On your gear, there are several stats you'll want to be on the lookout for, or directly add to your gear through forging. We've listed them below in order of importance for the leveling process.
- Attack Speed
- Raw Damage
- Movement Speed
- Mana Regeneration
- Max Life
- Armor
- Critical Strike Chance
- Critical Strike Damage
- Fork/Rebound/Pierce Chance (For Evolve and Overcome)
- Time Warp Mastery
- Arcane Missile Mastery
- Arcane Breach Mastery
Legendary Effects
There are also a few Legendaries that provide substantial upgrades to this build, if you're lucky enough to drop or craft them.
- Shroud of the Arcanewalker
- Vestige of Ancient Time
- Time Traveling Robe
- Rune of the Timeless
