Todd Howard, A "Professional Lurker" On Reddit, Is Asking Fans For Advice
In recent years, Bethesda has stayed quiet about what it’s working on until it’s ready to launch. That’s why we haven’t heard anything about The Elder Scrolls 6 since its reveal, while Fallout 5 is completely AWOL.
However, as Asha Sharma takes over Xbox (and lays off thousands of workers in the process), Bethesda isn’t allowed to keep its cards to its chest anymore. Last week, the studio officially confirmed that remasters of Fallout 3 and New Vegas are in the works, although it is still working on Starfield content and Fallout 5. In the meantime, Obsidian is being handed the reins on Fallout to make its own game.
But it doesn’t end there. Whether pushed by Sharma or of his own volition, Todd Howard himself is speaking directly to fans on Reddit. Admitting that he is a “professional lurker”, he says that he’s gotten ideas from fans on Reddit before, and urges them to share what else they would like to see from Bethesda.
Bethesda Fans Are Asking Todd Howard For More Decisions In TES 6, And Fixes For Oblivion Remastered
“Hey Reddit. I’m a professional lurker and read your comments all the time,” says Todd Howard. “Many here do and we deeply appreciate all the passion for our work.”
He admits that the info we got last week was part of a bid to be more transparent. “Know we’re constantly listening and keep telling us how to be even better. You’d be surprised how many great ideas I get from Reddit. So upvote your favorite and we’ll do it. Maybe.”
Right now, the most upvoted suggestions are all to do with Oblivion Remastered.
“Please get Virtuous to keep patching Oblivion and give it as much love as you guys gave Skyrim, because it feels abandoned right now which is a shame,” says Redditor GamerLove1.
“Pay Virtuous whatever amount needed for the remasters to function well,” says LMY723.
Others share what they would like to see in Bethesda’s future games.
“Please make TES6 and F5 have more meaningful choices and consequences,” says RecruitElite. “I enjoy Fallout 3 and 4, but I feel the amount of game-altering choices is lacking.
“Maybe certain factions conflict with each other’s views, so joining one makes another dislike you, if not just outright hostile towards you. Morrowind had a system similar to that, and it kind of just went away to allow us to join all factions without them really seeming to care. Sometimes it feels we’re kind of on rails to a degree and aren’t allowed to play with the amazing sandbox you’ve created because it needs to be accessible at the end of the day.”
Todd the Lurker hasn’t responded to any of these comments just yet, but I suppose a lurker wouldn’t, would they? We’ll just have to wait and see if TES 6 and Fallout 5 reflect this feedback - and if Oblivion Remastered finally gets fixed.
