If you're just getting into making Miis for the island, it's a good idea to start small anyway, to help you get the lay of the land.
Keeping It Tidy

After granting a few wishes, you'll be able to start unlocking all kinds of new pathways from the Island Builder menu at the Wishing Fountain, and it's with these that you'll be able to get creative with the way you pave streets and walking paths on your island, like what you can see above.
The Mii's houses all align with the sidewalks and pathing paved through the area, there are tidy mixed-use neighborhoods with shops and houses alike, and the entire island seems visually in order at all times. Pop down some decorations and fences to keep things linear with your decorations and your island will always look well-organized.
Bustling City Streets

When you unlock new buildings by progressively granting more wishes and making the Miis on your island happier, you'll get one copy of the new location by default to help you get started with enjoying everything it brings to the game. If you'd like additional locations, though, they're available at Quik Build after they're unlocked in-game.
By buying and placing additional copies of places like the Fresh Kingdom food market, the Tomoria restaurant, the Wear & Where clothing store, and plenty more bustling shops, you'll be able to create a big-city feel on your cozy little island.
Canal Town Vibes

If your Miis used one of their Travel Tickets from the Wishing Fountain to go on the Western European Tour, where they'll get to see everything from Venice to Amsterdam, they might just come home with a few photos of themselves along the canals in these iconic cities that can inspire your new Tomodachi Life island layout.

Posts By Zoë J. OsikThough the water tool is largely meant for the sea, there's no reason you can't bring it inland and create a series of canals and waterways through the town cropping up on your island! Leave some land bridges for your Miis to cross and decorate them as you see fit to give the illusion that your islanders are living it up old-school European style on the water's edge.
Rainbow Archipelago

While this is one of the Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream island design ideas that'll take a bit more time and resources to build up, it's also one of the coolest if you're looking for a colorful rainbow vibe! Create a series of islands dedicated to facilities in a single color and decorate them with Quik Build purchases to reinforce the idea.
Use things like beach stairs, playground equipment, main township buildings, Mii homes, seating, street lamps, and so much more to add splashes of color here, there, and everywhere across the island of your dreams in Tomodachi Life's long-awaited sequel.
Decorative Water Features

Another option for the water feature built into the Island Builder in Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream is for creating all sorts of beautifully elaborate shapes on your island to create ponds in whatever shape you'd like. This reddit user made a cute heart pond for their Wishing Fountain, giving an adorably charming vibe to the island.
Using the land tool isn't just for expanding the island, either, since you can also use it like they did to create decorative smaller islands within these ponds to break up large swaths of water. Decorate them with plant life, line them with fences, and get creative with showing your Miis some love.

Make good use of the Island Builder tool and create as much land as you need to house the variety of Miis you've created.

Tomodachi Life Apartment Building

If you played the original Tomodachi Life back on the 3DS, then you'll likely remember the old Apartment Building pretty fondly. Our Miis used to live all together in one singular building that grew vertically into the skies above your island as more Miis moved in, and if you're missing the vibe from before, you can make something similar happen in Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream.
Your Miis will eventually begin wanting to live together as they establish relationships, make friends, or even fall in love and get married, and these Miis will move into a house together that becomes quite mansion-like before long. With four Miis to a house needed for this home size, the square shape paired with a design from the Palette House can bring back the nostalgic vibes with ease.
